It certainly isn't what we are used to seeing from our typical Star Trek films -- that is it isn't BermanTrek, nor is it RoddenberryTrek -- it is very, very different.
Aside from the clichéd opening scene of the trailer (maybe that scene will translate better in the context of the film) I thought the rest of the trailer made the movie look great. It does't look like anything like Star Trek 1-10, but it still looked like a fun, exciting, and interesting film...and isn't that what we want?
My only real problem with it is that people are driving motorcycles and old cars in the 23d century. Fucking ridiculous. Otherwise, seemed pretty cool. I like the look of the ship's interior, and I'm glad they used the classic uniforms.

^^There are people today who still use 19th-century modes of transportation to get around (sailboats, rowboats, horses, etc.). Horse-and buggies are still popular today in some rural countries, and even in some parts of the U.S.
Maybe George Kirk Senior collects old cars and motorcycles.

Could be. We'll have to see the scene in context to know for sure, I guess.

It also makes sense as Kirk collects antiques.
Maybe picked up the hobby at a young age from his father or similar role model figure.
And yeah, there are still really old modes of tansport and equipment still used. In my local town, Faversham, Kent UK, where we have Britains oldest brewer, we have a horse drawn delivery cart from 1855
Still works, looks great, and still used. 
I am a purist at heart. QoS was a good movie by the way. It wasn't Casino Royale but it was good. Anyhow the trailer was great. I don't know if the movie will be good or not though. However, canon has been thrown right out the window. The only things that will remain the same from all other trek is; there is an Enterprise, the characters retain the same names, there is a Captain Pike, and the old Red alert sound. That's about it. Everything else is up for grabs. This isn't a prequel to the 60's show. This is a complete reboot. I am excited for John Cho, I hear Sulu is going to be a bad ass which is cool. I had alot to be down about concerning this new movie. The trailer made me realize that i should just sit back and have fun. It got me excited. I heard no laughter in my audience. I actually heard someone say "it's about time", whatever that meant. But for people who will not be able to let go of old Trek, this movie is not for you. I thought i was one of those types, but after the trailer I don't want to be.

As for the 'antique cars' - Trek has often wrongly left the impression that because a new tech comes along old technology must therefore become extinct. Not how it tends to work, the old and new tend to coexist and if some of it has a fashionable quality such as cars so much the better.

I saw the trailer last night with QoS, and I have to say... it didn't have a dramatic effect on me. That isn't to say I disliked what I saw. I just didn't feel particularly pumped or excited after I saw it. Visually, the film looks very interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about the bright white Enterprise interiors. I'm not sure I like the idea of young Kirk driving an antique Mustang off a cliff. The f/x work looks top-notch, as expected from ILM.
The trailer flashed by so quickly, and there was so much to take in... I guess it just didn't give me a chance to walk away with a particular feeling (positive or negative).

The only exceptions to that were: Kirk collecting antiques and Paris working on old cars. I do agree with you that somehow Trek has mostly given the impression of "that's outdated, let's ignore it".
The TNG episode "Relics" is good because it cofronts this issue head on: People can become relics, not just inanimate objects.
I agree that the driving the car-off-the-cliff scene really set the wrong tone for that trailer. The trailer would have been much better without it.

The shots of the 'E' look great in the quick glimpses.
All the sets look 'real', solid, large, substatial----not 'budgety'
It justs feels like a huge epic movie and it seems to me it will add to the trek mythos even if it isn't exactly the same look or style of the other versions.
I really wish it was May 9 right now.
Had to wait from 9:45 till 1:30 pm because the first auditorium I saw the movie in didn't have the trailer.
Usher told me I could come back to the later show and see it.
Young 17 year old kid and he said he 'loved it'
Very cool a new generation of trek fan hyping the movie for an old timer .like me!!!
I'm very happy.

I still think it is an excellent hook. Get the non-Trek fans interested before they even know it is Trek. A successful trailer will do this.

Ive only just noticed it.
I wasnt paying attention until Shatners face appeared, scowling at me.
Then i watched the animation again and couldnt stop laughing at it, its excellent.
I have deep reservations about the movie and fears, but I don't think the trailer sinks or swims it for me. Only seeing the film in a theater next May and/or June will accomplish that for me, and I hold out all final judgments on TREK episodes and films until I actually get to see them with my own two eyes. The trailer is flashy and serviceable and looks neat. Does that mean the movie will rock? Not necessarily. But my reservations don't mean it WON'T be fun as hell and memorable either.
