What if Picard and Crusher stayed "Attached"?

Here's an interesting story possibility I hadn't considered? What if Picard and Beverly couldn't have been immediately separated in the last minute or two of "Attached"? What if their minds had to stay linked for a few episodes? Or the most of the rest of the series (there were only 17 or episodes left of the entire series)? I know that this sort of ongoing storyline wasn't in vogue at the time, but it could be done now. Good idea? Horrible idea? At least an interesting possibility? Where could the writers have gone with it?

A longer lasting connection between the two would have been interesting because it would have added some depth, especially to the deadly dull character of "Beverely Crusher"

I felt sorry for Picard in "Attached". To think that Doctor Crusher could read his mind while he was fantasing about her. What a dreadful thing for a man to endure.

In First Contact Picard seemed to be able to "hear" the Borg in his mind. It would have been interesting to see Beverly realising that he still had some connection to them, and to see how she would have coped with that. I think I feel a fan fic coming on...

Well that depends what Picard and Crusher were attached to each other with.

Make sure it was the vibrating spark plug... Sticking out of something else...

I think it's more lkely they'd become the "same person" they were already headng down that road at the end of the episode. Sharing the same thoughts, feelings, emotions, having one another's memories, sharing one another's dreams. It seems likely at some point they'd start working on the same wavelength and pretty much be the same person in two bodies.

That dress Crusher wore at the end of the episode?
