David Tennant leaves DW after the specials

He was truly fantastic in that role, but as a friend of mine keeps saying that was a long time ago now.

I think people have a bit of an (understandably) skewed vision of him. Most of his time is spent doing serious stage work but most people have only see him as Johnson or playing Numberwang.

Moffat has known all along he'd be introducing a new Doctor. Guaranteed.

Your're right. Moffat was offered the job last Summer. RTD said in the BBC4 interview he did late last year that he knew exactly when he and Tennant would be leaving. This was all settled a long time ago.

Remember that Mark Lawson interview RTD did a while back? He said then that he knew exactly when both he and Tennant were going to be leaving.

All this has happened before, and will happen again...

Yeah and he wasn't helped by having to play the annoying American in Jekyll. I'd love to see him as the Doctor though but, at 44 now and bearing in mind season 5 is still a year and a half away, is he not too ancient to play the role given the comments of RTD et al on the best age to play The Doctor.

Please God I hope they don't give it to that kid who was in Voyage of the Dammed. Irrespective of if he could pull it off he just looks too young. I know Davison was only 28 but he at least looked/acted much older.

What? Patterson Joseph as the Doctor? As in, JOHNSON!?

Paterson Joseph is optioned for a second seaosn of Survivors, which would almost certainly probably overlap with shooting of Who 5 (seeing as the first season was still shooting in October).
Though of course it's easy to kill someone off in Survivors, and they're both BBC shows so they could be expected to 'co-operate'.

Yeah but RTD also once said he hated the Master

The difference was the comment about knowing when they were leaving was made in a proper serious interview as opposed to one of his wind up the tabloids/ming-mongs sessions.

I know there's a tendancy to look skeptically on anything he says but I can't think of a single fib (it'd be wrong to call 'em lies) he ever told that wasn't directly related to keeping future plotlines secret. (A tradition Moffat has said he'll happily be continuing.)

So in 2010 they'll be a new leader at the helm (Moffat), a new doctor, a new companion (assuming he/she...who am I kidding, she...isn't introduced in one of the specials) ~ what else do you think will be new?

A rearrangement of the theme music probably.

I'd love to see a new interior of the tardis. Not that I don't like the current design, I'd just like to see something different.

Could someone tell me when the four specials are airing? I know one will be at easter and another at Christmas, but what about the other two. I'm getting a bit confused because some sources are saying Tennant's final appearance will be in 2009 others are saying 2010.

Also new Executive Producer, because Julie Gardner is moving on. The 4/5 upcoming specials will have a new producer, too.

Apparently RTD was(is?) hoping for a New Years special too. But I don't think there's a solid air date for them, since they've filming in January, it'll depend on the amount of effects work, etc. on when they can air the first one.

Apart from one at Easter and one at Christmas nothing has been officially confirmed. (And even that is subject to change, of course.) The rumor is that after Christmas 2009 there'll be a two-part story airing during the holiday season, perhaps on Boxing Day and New Year's Day. So an early 2010 finish for Tennant is very possible.

It would also be a perfect time to upgrade the cameras and any other sets to go HD.

I wonder if this means one of the specials will now involve the River Song backstory? :vulcan:
