David Tennant leaves DW after the specials

Maybe the Beeb will set up a helpline for distraut fans... Russell Brand's got sometime on his hands this week, needs a job and has telephone experience. :p

As a pre-2005 fan, I have no problem with this and he's still in the role for another year and a bit. Time enough for the squee patrol's pain to ease. That's more notice than fans of Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy & Paul McGann ever got combined...

Ethiopian Teachers Association?

Yep, I edited to add that the Ethiopian Teachers Association wanted me to tell you you were correct.

Also, RTD says he's going to drop a radioactive piano on the Doctor's head.

Russell T Davies, Executive Producer of Doctor Who, comments: ""I've been lucky and honoured to work with David over the past few years – and it's not over yet, the Tenth Doctor still has five spectacular hours left!

"After which, I might drop an anvil on his head. Or maybe a piano. A radioactive piano.

"But we're planning the most enormous and spectacular ending, so keep watching!"

I hope the next Doctor will be a "normal" dresser. Please, no more ruffles or eye-searing outfits.

Part of me sad to hear this news but I'm also glad we got to see Tennant in three great series-worth of Who. (Well, I'm not a great fan of S2 but it was still enjoyable.)

I was really hoping he'd stick around for Moffat's first season, at the end of which I fully expected him to leave. I'm going to be sad to see him go. I started watching Who with Sylvester McCoy when I was in high school, but I didn't really get into it until the new series started. Despite seeing McCoy (who I like quite a bit in the part) and Eccelston, Tennant is my Doctor.

Now I've got to decide whether or not to tell my 8-year-old son. He's going to be crushed. But I don't tell him and it's a surprise when the regeneration happens, he may be even more bad off. Still, part of me would like him to be unspoiled about what's to come.

Ditto. Still, it gives Moffat a chance to totally make the show in his image from the start, so that's probably a good thing.

The main thing that sucks for me is I have no idea when the 2009 specials will air in the US.

True. If Who wasn't in the hands of Moffat, I'd be a lot more nervous about the transition to come. I've loved his Who episodes, I loved Coupling, and I've liked the little I've seen of Jekyll. I have confidence that he's going to hit the ground running even with the added challenge of introducing a new Doctor.
