Knight Rider "Pilot" - Discussion and Spoilers

I don't remember the old show well enough, did Kitt always make Cylon noises with his scanner?

Yes. The original show was created by the same guy who made the original BSG. He liked the Cylons so much that he integrated their flashing red eye and it's sound effect into KITT as a tribute.

It's been a while, I didn't remember it being so explicit, I have to catch an old episode. I bet there's an episode on Hulu.

^Yes after Glen Larson's 1970's battlestar galactica and BSG 1980 ,he put a cylon like scanner into his new show(knight rider) it was a nod to the past

Like Dirk Benedict pointing at a cylon suit in the credits for the A-Team

I love what's her name.

Boobies!

Her name is Deanna Russo. I am becoming more fond of her as well.

NBC exec-yes our plan is working! Next week we'll have her strip down again and be covered in oil because she's going into frreezing water! (surface)

BTW seeing this tribute video makes me wish the 2008 series had the same kind of magic of the old. The 08 series is all flash and bang.

The people behind the 08 series thinking is "that if they don't have some snazzy hook like attack mode kitt and striping down to your underwear no one will like the series"

Sure the old KITT had advance but not this flashy. Until later seasons they needed something to keep the audience around(super pursuit mode)

Hmmm ... it must have been salvaged technology from one of those crashed Cylon raiders from Galactica 1980! BSG technology might also explain why turbo boost always sounded like a Viper's afterburners! It all makes sense now ... even KARR ... not enough Cylon removed!

Alright this was just barely better than the pilot-but then, you did see the pilot, so...

There was some very bad green screen going on in most of the driving sequences. If it's gonna be that bad, just throw up a rear screen projector like the old days. And poor Billy from BSG. Wonder if he wishes he's stayed on Galactica?
Val Kilmer...he's just not cutting it. He voice-over is even duller than dishwater, and with as many faults the show has, if they could just recast him, things would improve mightily. A show about a man and his talking car needs at least one of them with some amount of charisma, something seriously lacking from both. :shifty:
In a perfect world we could dump Mike for Sarah. Alas, this ain't that world. :wtf:

I thought the chase was dumb too. Kit can go 300+ mph and they had a pretty tough time catching up to them. Michael Knight would've had KITT speed up to the car, pressed the "ROOF-R" button and then hopped over and taken care of business!

And at one point we see them speed up to just on the other car's bumper then moments later they're a 1/4 mile behind them again.

OK, so who played the hottie in the blue car?

More seriously, I vote average, I think it was a very decent start for the series and certainly a serious improvement over that appalling pilot they did in February.

* I noticed they re-used the exact same scanner sound from the original series. Which, contrary to popular belief is NOT the Cylon one. It's clearly the same kind but it's a different sound effect.
* Turboboost was... silly, to say the least. Very poorly executed. I hope they will improve on that.
* More Zoe and Billy please, they were the funniest thing around! Or try to make Mike and KITT funny, that would also be a serious improvement.
* I don't mind Mike's secret past. But it was thin layer of poor writing however because it wasn't such a big deal overall, I think
* KITT's messing around with Mike's secret files, looks to me like he's taking care of his driver ;) (yes, I said "he")
* Do we really need to see KITT's internals? (when he turboboosts for example) I think we could do without that.

So far, I'm happy with what they've done but they need to continue improving the show.

I really enjoyed that part. It reminded me of the scene in "Fast and the Furious" when we went from the driver's arm to the internal workings of the car. Seeing as how the producer is the same guy that did FatF, I'm sure this was a direct tribute.

So K.I.T.T. is basically a Transformer now :wtf:
When the February movie came out, the writers and producers cited "Transformers" as their inspiration for KITT's morphing ability and his "Attack Mode" transformation. It's no surprise that Gary Scott Thompson took it to another level. Being a TF fan, I enjoyed the silly coolness of it all. I look forward to seeing KITT turn into other vehicles though, perhaps a Focus or something closer in size to the Mustang.

Why isn't there grading for this show? I'd give it a C-.

I liked the morphing capability in the movie; however, the attack mode morphing is crap. What's with the "KR" in lights under the car when he executes the turbo boost? :wtf:

Transforming into a truck - DUMB.

Having a team of technicians scrambling around a central command - eh, I can understand the need for mechanics; however, as previously stated, kill Billy and Zoe.

Speaking of Billy and Zoe, why do Mike and KITT need to be in communicato with a central command? Why are the technicians trying to solve problems remotely that KITT encounters? Isn't that why the car was built?

Are all assignments going to be close to the central command? If so, that's pathetic.

I want to like it and have it improved over the original, but these are some major sore areas for me.

They remind me of technicians in a bad guys base in a james bond movie

" do you even have a first name?"

" look at that guy, he's just acting like he's doing something important in front of all those blinking lights"

Overall, I felt like I was watching a Power Rangers episode, but with half naked, hot chicks sprinkled around. For what it is, it was fun and entertaining, but I'll be surprised if it lasts more than a half season before getting punted the Sci-fi channel.

Oh and it was missing Sombreros....

I enjoyed the pilot though a little over the top, so I wonder if that will make it hard for an audeince to get into the show. I know Knight Rider is supposed to be over the top but the show could do more to stay grounded.

I did like the action, humor especially with that cute Asian chick and the geek on the team. I do NOT like the people he's working for but I do like the secret back story that they dropped hints at, could be interesting.

Overall a decent start though I feel the show will struggle to keep an audience who may want more than a popcorn action flick every week for 42 mins. Theres no harm in not trying to be a serious show but the ratings could suffer in this day n age.

ps - Val is great as KITT.

This new backstory bit doesn't work for me. It feels too contrived. Revealing that Graiman has had an agenda all along that involves Mike Traceur comes off as something that was thought up and thrown in after the two-hour pilot. It wasn't clever. It doesn't diminish the show's fun factor though and in the end, that's why I'm watching.

It works for me because it could shake up the status quo. It'd be boring if Alex was just "da boss" behind the scenes and everyone was purely "good". It seems Graiman is actually uncomfortable with Torres' stance on things. What if he wants to help Mike and is slowly moving chess pieces around to do so? I can imagine his agenda helping Mike tying into Michael Knight Sr.'s return and perhaps even changing who runs Knight Research. This is just speculation on my part, but it gives the story a lot more places to go than just "Torres tells Mike where to go every week".
