The town's mayoral race is disrupted when Zoe's science partner inadvertently causes a second sun to appear over Eureka.

Oh, boy, another of Zoe's friends screws up! Woohoo!

:p

On the one hand, it was an excellent episode. In between hands, there were some odd directorial choices, like the jump cuts of Zane breaking the lock, and a bit more people talking with their mouthes conspicuously off-screen than usual. On the other hand, I want to punish someone for making the product-placement integral to the plot of the episode.

In my ideal world, this massive amount of product-placement would consist of the following: at some point during every episode, in the middle of a scene, Carter turns and looks directly at the camera, pulls a stick of deodorant out of his pocket and holds it next to his face, and says "This is our sponsor's product. Please buy it." He would then hold that position for fifteen seconds, before putting the deodorant back in his pocket and continuing the scene as if nothing had happened. Just embrace the intrusiveness of it.

They actually did something very like that on 30 Rock last year. They were talking about cell phones, and then Tina Fey turned to the camera and said, "Okay, so do we get our money now?" :guffaw:

Another solid episode that ties together all of the various plot lines by the end with more information about what Eve is doing. I loved watching Zoe and Fargo butting heads, while Zoe dealing with her feisty nine-year old science partner, Kylie (and I hope we see more of her). The mayor race was somewhat amusing, but I knew the moment Henry stepped into verbally smack the three candidates for politically squabbling during a moment of crisis that he would be elected mayor.

Getting back to Eve, I'm highly suspecting a couple things things: 1) Her husband is among the dead bodies, 2) She was either there or nearby at the time of this accident occurred (something to do with rapid aging) and it somehow had a physical effect on her. The question remains why has it taken her this long to return to Eureka if my hypothesis is correct?

The product placement was hideous this week as David as already described. That being said, sweaty Jo in a wife beater was incredibly hot.

Lastly, I missed the first minute of the episode because House ran over. I missed everything before Jack was handed the paper ballots.

...holds it next to his face, and says "This is our sponsor's product. Please buy it." ...
that would rock.

I'm not enthused about the carter's sister character she's seems rather annoying and what's even worse, looks like uma thurman.

Good ep. I knew they were doing an entire episode with Degree, so it didn't bother me as much. I just about rolled my eyes, though, with the Jo/Zane scene. We've barely seen them together as a couple and now it's all "I love you". Ugh.

Anyway, Lexie annoyed me tonight. She definitely wasn't needed, and what was with the ultrasound? Foreshadowing an Allison pregnancy? I hope not.

The rest was pretty great. Eva and her secrets. Emh, I believe Eva's husband was one of the victims too. Henry winning the mayoral race. He deserved it more than the rest. All of their bickering and stuff was cute, but kinda annoying, and definitely selfish at the end. Fargo and Zoe rule, though. I'm surprised they didn't scrap. I liked Kylie too.

Can't believe next week is it until January. I need my Eureka.

I was fearing the worst for the Degree episode, but I was pleasantly surprised by this episode. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

I was also shocked that the promo for the next episode actually said mid season finale instead of just season finale like they've always done for mid season finales.

HAH! It looks like I was right in that other thread about Eve. Of course, it wasn't that hard to figure out. This show doesn't make viewers strain their brains too hard.

Yeah, product placement. Hubby noticed that for all the heat, the ladies were still wearing their bras. He notices that sort of thing.

Like others said, it was a solid Eureka episode. I guess putting the whole town in danger works well--back to the series premiere, and many iterations of the danger theme ranging from temporal to geothermic...and of course there's quite a bit to stretch creduilty. I think they would at least wear heat protective suits like those used by firefighters in extreme hazard conditions. Not to mention heat of that kind, interfering with respiration, permanent retinal damage, etc. That said, with the suits on, it would be far more difficult to film--and see the actors' efforts. Artistic license here.

I liked giving the mayoral role to Henry. He already has fulfilled some of those responsibilities, in emceeing events, giving speeches, etc. Of course having the jack-of-all-trades as the mayor gives a whole new meaning to someone who 'runs the town.'

Also liked how the season has progressed, even as the Artifact story is gone now, and the Consortium seems to be gone. What we have with Eva Thorne seems more to be a case of history's lost threads coming back. I do agree with the speculation, the clues point toward Eva's husband being one of three down there--the SciFi promo suggests they were working on a 'doomsday weapon'. The question is why Eva has tried so hard to cover it up, erase evidence. I'm wondering whether she does have a noble agenda. Maybe she believes that the morally questionable project--the fusion bomb or whatever was being worked on down there, was misguided and wants all evidence of it erased to prevent this project from being restarted. Knowledge can be dangerous, and to protect Allison, Carter, and the others she has to keep them from knowing, for their own good. That's just my speculation of the moment. Also, could some form of time travel be involved? Or just rapid aging...radiation induced? And what is that purple liquid?

But one thing seems rather consistent, IIRC--how Thorne wanted the town evacuated immediately. People come first may be her immediate reaction, knowing what happened in the 1930's. In the "Bad Drone" premiere episode, she also ordered deadly force, immediate strikes to wipe out the threat of the automated Martha attack drones, to save the population. She seems to want to protect the people, and is willing to sacrifice all else.

Back to the episode, the product placement was done in a fairly good way. It reminds me of how deftly Stargate Atlantis handled the 'clip show' in S1; the story was still the strength.

I voted Good. It would have been higher, but I found the repeated use of the advertising slogan, almost to the point of parody, annoying, and the bickering, too.

I liked the episode; I laughed at the ridiculousness of the blatant product placement, and also foresaw the results of the mayoral race. But what I want to know is, where is Allison's son? What happened to him? During the crisis, why wouldn't her son be with her?

It was a good episode. And Jo looked great! But i found some parts very predictable, but hats Eureka. On the other hand, i already bought 2 sticks of the degree deodorant.

My guess is that Eve's father was one of the scientists. This complex was built before Eureka was founded, and if you recall, Fargo's grandfather was a Eureka resident. That would place Eve in Fargo's grandparent's age range, and she doesn't look that old.

I was also shocked that the promo for the next episode actually said mid season finale instead of just season finale like they've always done for mid season finales.
We're getting 20 eps this season, thanks in no small part to Degree, so it's mid season finale for the first time.
It was fun seeing Stargate Atlantis' stuffy Sgt Bates as a daft super scientist. So when will David Hewlitt show up? We've already had Zelenka and Michael Shanks. :)

And...that's the simplest and most plausible answer. Yet, most of us didn't even think of that. :rommie: I'm really liking the way we get a small piece of the puzzle each week. This season's been pretty good so far.

I'm also thinking that one of the scientists was her father.

When they were evacuating the town, Eve made a comment about being left behind.

Looks like Zoe's going to be in peril after all.

I think you mixed up your usernames the wrong person. :p
What I meant by that was that I was shocked the promo actually said mid season finale instead of season finale. First time I've ever seen a sci-fi promo that said mid-season finale for a mid season finale.

D'oh! You're right...there was something else I wanted to comment on, but forgot while editing the quotes...Sorry. :)

It doesn't help that the actress has no chemistry with Colin Fergenson, so she winds up being very annoying and irritating. :alienblush:

Okay, I don't watch Eureka, but the nature of the product combined with the premise of the episode caused this image to pop into my head: Degree Wetness Protection for Men allows the main character to survive the amazing heat generated by the second sun, so as to give him time to fiddle the phlebotnum and save the town!

How far off am I?

Well, technically it's prototype super-Degree pilfered from the lab by another character and then confiscated by the main one right before the climax but... yep, right on the money.

Where was Allie's son? Boarding school?

I think Eve was there in '39 and that purple liquid is what's keeping her from aging normally. It wasn't her father-maybe a fiance.

I think its time for Lexi to go back to Haight-Ashbury or wherever she's from-could they have found a less-likable character?

What happened to the 2 middle-aged twins? I haven't seen them in any crowd shots recently.

Nathan's acting credits keep rolling-contractual obligation or foreshadowing?

I would like to see the Zack/Joe relationship either focused on and fleshed out or scrapped completely. That half-assed thing in this episode was lame.
