I guess this might be considered a little spoilerish if you haven't read the book:
At the end, when Spock and Kirk are going over the Kirk/Mitchell tale, Spock asks if Kirk had attempted to find out again why all cadets were forced to stay in their quarters, and Kirk replies no. But then Spock asks if he was surprised when he found out. It says that Kirk had found out a few weeks prior, I believe. Was the reason ever mentioned in the book? Or did I completely miss something?
