I was also thinking about either a coonskin cap....

Its funny you should say that, my first pass at The Search for a Sombrero had a different ending...

You know, in this chaotic world, there's something very comforting about being away from this board for a month, coming back, and finding that the beloved Blue Warp Nacelles thread is still humming along and that people are still wearing sombreros.

:)

Damn it all to hell that this perfectly crafted post is just a few letters too long to work as a signature.

Barkley, have a suitably reduced version that still packs all the punch of the original on my desk first thing Monday morning. You heard me!

Right away Mr. Cogley, sir!! (Mutters something under breath about goddamned lawyers.)

How's this:

In a chaotic world, there's something comforting about coming back to the BBS after a month, to find that the beloved Blue Warp Nacelles thread is still humming along, and that people are still wearing sombreros.

Now this is certainly not shorter, but it really works if you read it in your best James Earl Jones voice:

Cogley, people will wear sombreros Cogley. They'll don sombreros for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll put on festive Mexican head gear not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll do hat dances, as innocent as children, longing for the past. "Of course, we won't mind if you post threads about somberos on starships and shouting Vulcans", you'll say. "It's free, or only $25 per year for the premium membership." They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and sombreros they lack. And they'll log on to the TrekBBS; sitting in their cubicles on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they are posting incessantly about JJ Abrams raping their childhoods and/or restoring their faith in humanity, when they know they are supposed to be working. And they'll post about sombreros and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in Antarean Glow Water. The memories will be so thick they'll be like extra-chunky salsa. People will wear sombreros Cogley. The one constant through all the years, Cogley, has been somberos. Star Trek has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But somberos have marked the time. This hat, this TV show: it's a part of our past, Cogley. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will wear them Cogley. People will most definitely wear somberos.

Utter genius, that!

Viva la sombreros!!

This is the headwear of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as an avacado; an elegant hat for a more civilized age.

I know I'm new here but I couldn't help noticing...

...That no one sombrero'ed k-7, even after 95 pages? After all, that place is four sombreros (connected by tamales) stationed on the edge of hostile Klingon territory, where there be no sombreros at t'all. Show the place some love for it is a shining beacon of hope, all alone in the night...

You should make that your sig line! :techman:

Yeah, that's a great post.

Wow, thanks guys. I don't really like using sig lines, but I'll oblige in this case. :)

If you only knew the power of the Dark Sombrero!!

You know, when I posted that I thought it'd be incredibly surprising and disappointing if I came back to this thread and didn't find a good Sombrero Wars 'shop in response.

Nicely done. :techman:
