STXI begins in TNG era?

I'm a bigger fan of TNG than the rest of Trek but have watched and enjoyed the vast majority of all of its iterations. While I like GEN, each time I watch it the flaws and plot holes get worse and bigger. My favorite scenes in that particular film are at the beginning in the TOS/Movie era. With that mindset, I'm more excited to see the opening scenes of STXI, which are supposed to take place in TNG's era. I can't wait to see how JJA and friends bring their vision of the late 24th/early 25th century to the screen. What will those ships, architecture, uniforms, equipment, etc. look like? Will we see any familiar actors/characters besides Nimoy? How will Spock get to his younger self?

I'm not asking for spoilers here. I'm just wondering if anyone else shares my anticipation for this particular segment of the upcoming movie.

Well, it takes place when Spock is quite old. Whether those sequences will involve anything that's recognizably "the TNG era" remains to be seen.

How do we know that we'll even see the 24th century?

The characters could have already time-travelled at the start of the movie.

The audience just need to know that Jim Kirk is important to the future, they don't need to see it.

I wonder if they will redesign the TNG era, too. It does seem terribly 1980s, with the pajamas, gray/beige tones, and corporate approach to problem-solving. Plus those vacuum cleaners they used as weapons are pretty laughable to audiences today. This would be a good time to smooth out all the meaningless details on the hull of the Enterprise also.

Are you serious??

I cannot live without those meaningless details.

Hopefully Spock will no longer be wearing the robes from Unification. Jolan True, Spock of the 24th century, you pointy eared bastid. :techman:

Are you serious? I thought this was going to be completely 23rd Century oriented. Why does this kind of stuff always have to happen?

It is likely that we may be shown a mere glimpse at best of Spock in the future, and possibly the Romulans for the film there as well.

I didn't think the newest uniforms, from First Contact on, were all that bad. But the ones from TNG and Voyager do seem old and a little silly now...

How else do you expect Nimoy to be in the movie? I don't expect much in terms of the 24th century (and it won't look 80s because any scenes there will be post-Nemesis), but it makes sense for the movie to start there.

I am hoping Spock is aboard the Titan for a diplomatic mission to Romulus after the events in Nemesis then for some reason he has to go back in time. Of course I doubt this will happen but it would be cool to see the Titan and a couple of familiar characters from the 24th century!

It would be cool to see the Titan. As a Galaxy class starship. Since that's what Riker always wanted.

I got the impression that Riker didn't want a Galaxy-class ship so much as he wanted the Enterprise. But yeah, it would be cool to see some clues that place this into some time period other than just "the future" relative to the TOS-era stuff.

You and me both... and it makes sense. At the end of NEM, Riker was assigned to head the diplomatic mission with the RSE and Spock was the leader of the Unificationists. It's not fanwank, IMHO. I would set it a several years after that movie and not have Frakes wear a hair piece or color his hair or beard. Or, they could make him up to look like he did in AGT. Time has passed; why not show it?

I would be very surprised, shocked if we see Riker or the Titan in this film.

As I've stated before even should this movie begin in the 24th Century (I am at least fairly sure we'll catch a glimpse) chances are, it as well has been radically altered to conform to the design expectations of the new production team.

and..for all we know maybe it takes place in an altered future that only Spock is aware of..how that is possible? Who knows. But something is going to inspire him to go back in the first place...

You bet I do! I still wish they had made a post Nemesis 24th century movie instead of a TOS remake anyway. The only reason I'll be giving it a chance is that Leonard Nimoy will play Spock again. That somehow "canonizes" XI for me.

If JJ really loved us, he'd put Riker and the Titan in this picture.
Soon, JJ soon. We will all see your true colors!

You nonlinear storytellin' bastid!:bolian:

It's probably not going to happen, but I'd love that!

We'll definitely see Picard, Riker and the whole gang.. They're going to find Spock on Romulus reassembling the Rumulan senate after Shinzon did away with them. They'll find Kirk (played by Shatner) in the nexus and realise he wasn't dead after all and take him back to the 22nd century to save Trip Tucker from killing himself in that explosion. Then they'll hook up with Kirk in his academy days and we'll see him hanging around with Finnegan, Finney and Carol Marcus, who is now pregnant with David. They'll do an ultra sound and see the lilttle baby has a blond Jewfro. Then they'll take a trip through the Guardian of Forever (Joan Collins has a cameo) and see Robert April played by Tom Cruise hand over command to Captain Pike. Majel Barret will reprise her role as Number One. It is here that Captain Kirk learns he has a stunt double, who is an ensign aboard the ship. When he becomes captain he make him a lieutenent. Eddie Paskey plays his older and younger self. The two Lt. Leslies give him advice about how to save Captain Garrovick from the cloud monster and together they teach that Gorn how to dance the Macarena. There is a big musical number where Uhura does a naked fan dance and Sulu has a sword fight with a gigantic alien flying pancake. Chekov bumps into Khan while keeping him waiting to use the toilet. Khan really has to go but has to wait for Chekov to flush and when he does he says, "I will never for get your face." Chekov replies by saying "New Cleahh Wessuhls." No one knows what that means for 20 years. The Enterprise goes through a refit and is given a sombrero and vectoring nacelles. Shatner has another cameo as a pair of pez despensers.
They meet some badass bald romulans with facial hair and skank tags on their faces. Old Spock and Young Spock have ponn farr and kill them all in their rage. Sisko comes out of the wormhole and smites them all. Trelane wets himself. The End.
