STXI begins in TNG era?

Anyway, since Vulcans (even the half-blood) are supposed to age so much slower than humans, who's to say the later period featured in the film won't be appreciably later than the TNG era? Maybe the movie will be bookended by time frames we've never seen before.

They might use Nimoy's current age as a way of bookending Spock's life. Nimoy will represent Spock at the end of his Vulcan life, and Quinto will be Spock at the begining of his (adult) life. Two bookends.

My guess is that we will start out with the Time-travelling Romulans already doing their dirty-work, and Spock along for the ride as a prisoner or something. Explanation told in flashback. Then he escapes, stops them, blah blah blah.
Wasn't there a spoiler about old Spock being in a one man time ship? Or was that just some crazy non rumor rumor?
I believe it was confirmed here:

Spock’s Time Ship
As reported before, the Star Trek film involves time travel and elder Spock (Leonard Nimoy) traveling through time. However (contrary to previous rumors about the Guardian of Forever) Spock uses a Vulcan ship specifically built for time travel. The ship is small and has a crew of one (Spock). The film will feature the bridge and also the ship’s ‘time core.’ It isn’t known what the name of the ship is, and it may be that the ship has no name.

I forgot about the timeship thing. Anyway, I was just pointing out a way in which the movie could start NOT in the 24th Century.

It's also possible he only uses the timeship for a return trip. If there is a return trip.

^^ Whatever happened to 'The Vulcan Science Directorate has concluded that time travel is impossible?'
As I recall, it became "Science Vulcan Directorate has determined that time travel is not fair" around the beginning of Season 2, just after Archer had traveled back from the 31st century to the 22nd.

Before the movie ends, Spock goes farther back in time to erase the VSD from history. He then goes even farther back in time and kills off and replaces Surak.

I would be very surprised, shocked if we see Riker or the Titan in this film.

As I've stated before even should this movie begin in the 24th Century (I am at least fairly sure we'll catch a glimpse) chances are, it as well has been radically altered to conform to the design expectations of the new production team.

Agreed... the Titan (which as far as I'm concerned needs to stay as Sean's design), is just fine for what it's supposed to be. But nobody but us "hardcore fans" would even know what it is, and many of US won't care.

If we see ANYTHING of Starfleet in the "Old Spock" timeframe (and let's be honest... we don't know if it's just post-TNG or later... maybe MUCH later), I expect that it'll be minimal and only there if it's necessary to further the storyline. There's a TON of storytelling to be done in the main "past"... and most anything that would involve the "present" (from Nimoy's Spock's perspective) would have to be about getting this story moving... not just to be "cool for fans."

SO... let's assume that Nero and Co. are Romulans... which seems VERY likely based upon a recent interview we've seen. Further, let's assume that this isn't a faction of the Romulan government (which also seems very likely unless we're talking massive "revisionist history" stuff going on here which'll confuse anyone who's ever watched any of the latter-day Trek stuff). The most we'd see would be:

1) Nero and his cohorts get the idea to go time-traveling.

2) Spock goes chasing after them.

Alternatively, I'd still rather see something more along the lines of Spock telling a morality tale about how a young friend of his, James Kirk, went from being a "bad boy" to being a "living legend."

Maybe the two will both be present... but there are now a few bits of evidence that tend to lean more towards the first option (ie, "time travel") and that alone. Oh well... (sigh)

It is possible that the framing story will be set not in the post-Nemesis 24th Century, but in the 25th. Vulcans are long-lived folks.

Did J.J actually say we'd specifically see Old Spock in the 24th C? If the future scenes look different to what we're used to from TNG/DS9/VOY, a 25th century setting could explain that away.

I'm fairly certain that I read the movie starts a few years after the events of Nemesis (around 2383 or 2385).

2385 would be about right for when the movie is released following Star Trek time with real time, and it would be stardate 62xxx or something. We may even see people in First Contact uniforms too.
