Anyone Ever Considered An All Male, All Human Crew For a Book Series?

Just wondering if anyone out there has considered this. Personally I'm tired of all the diversity that Star Trek often insists on foisting upon us.

Plus I'm fond of the all male dynamics. Human males act considerably different if there are no females around.

The USS Sparta, eh?

"This! Is! Starfleet!"

Only if they're all homosexuals. And there are illustrations. Lots and lots of color illustrations.

...What were we talking about?

Actually, if you look at Greek history, Spartan women had more rights and protections than virtually all women of that time period.

Because as the outstanding Lena Headley said in "The 300"

"Only Spartan women give birth to Spartan men".

Personally, I think modeling the Klingons after Sparta would've made a more sense dramatically and practically than modeling them after the westernized version of the Samurai.

I was thinking more about the Knights Templar.

Without the Catholic angle of course.

Good grief, make that three whole threads in ten hours griping about how Trek doesn't give you what you want. Mods, is this appropriate?

Seconded.

Dayton3, based on your posts in this forum lately, I'm going to say that Star Trek isn't for you, has never been for you, and will never be for you.

I think Trek would have to be set in a very martial timeline to have an all-male cast.

A part of Star Trek, in the minds of many fans and - I assume - the authors, is the concept of IDIC. Further, Star Trek, set firmly in the midst of a secular humanist worldview is going to be far more progressive than people who share a conservative, Biblically-based Christian worldview. It comes with the territory of Science Fiction in general, and Star Trek in specific.

I don't read Star Trek or Sci Fi to reinforce my faith, though I often find concepts in science fiction that could (should!) be used by people of faith...

As far as being frustrated with 'foisting diversity' on us, I'm more frustrated with such 'foisted diversity' feeling token, as opposed to genuinely including diversity in a meaningful way to bolster the story.

I thought the forum rules for the TrekBBS limited a person to starting "three threads per forum per day".

Isn't their software that is part of the TrekBBS that is supposed to prevent you from posting too many threads the same way it prevents you from posting duplicate posts?

The software does neither, and the thread limit is not what Christopher was talking about. You're skirting the line between griping and trolling.

I intended to do neither.

If anyone wants, I can wait a few days and start a new thread listing the Star Trek novels that I liked, the reasons why to give a better idea of the kind of Trek literature that I find enjoyable.

Of course, it is possible that the Trek Literature forum is intended to be pretty much a "book reviews only" forum.

If this is the case, could a moderator please move my threads to General Discussion or where they are supposed to be?

Re: Anyone Ever Considered An All Male, All Human Crew For a Book Seri

I'm closing both of your threads for the time being, Dayton, pending a ruling. I need to discuss this over with Rosalind and she's not available at the time being.
