You're at work, or you're at home. Something dramatic has happened. Oh heck what? I don't know. Maybe your kid fell down and scraped his knee and he is looking to you for advice. Or, who knows, maybe your girl friend/wife is upset at you for not doing something for her; like getting her tampons. You name it, something has happened that requires you to throw out a word or two and you resort to quoting a Trek line from either a movie or a TV show...

What was your BEST Trekonian moment where you found yourself QUOTING Trek in a real life quandry?

When I have students who behave in a bad way, I'll often talk to the kids about "honor." They don't realize, but in my head, I'm definately thinking Klingon.

    I've never knowingly quoted Trek.

A Star Trek actors family (via mutual friends) turned up at a conference I was speaking at, sat in the front seats and recorded my lecture without first seeking my permission. I made sure I mentioned the series, quoting from it as an example of the topic to hand; in invitation to speak to me once the lecture was over. I guess they had another appointment because they hurried out while other audience members grabbed my attention once the lecture was over! In their rush, they forgot to register or pay for the conference! I squared it with the organiser later (their visit had not gone unnoticed).

Guess they thought I was going to bite their kneecaps!

I actually do say "HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND" alot. Its the line the Klingon says to Kirk/McCoy when they beam over after Gorkon is shot.

I find myself asking, on an almost daily basis, a McCoy like "What's the matter with you?". I'm not a doctor but work with doctors and always think of Bones in The Voyage Home asking the old lady waiting for kidney dialysis that very question whenever I say it.

Off the top of my head, the only two I can think of that I've ever used were "Will you please sit down??" and (far more often) "Everybody remember where we parked." The latter very much comes in handy at places like Disneyland....

My favorite line to quote, typically when something goes disasterously wrong, is "Perhaps today is a good day to die."

On rare occasion I have said, "That's highly illogical." Usually to my ex, who is still my best friend. I love him, but he's definitely not always logical. :vulcan:

    Oustanding thread.

I've got a lot of every-day Trek miniquotes that have worked their way into my life, but they're all undetectable as Trekisms, except to the die-hard fan. Many are sarcastic (just as many were on first delivery).

    (Worf, NEM) "Very astute."

    (McCoy, ST6) "This is fun."

(McCoy, ST5) "God-damned irresponsible ... playin' games with life!"

(Khan, Space Seed) "I am feeling fat-igued again."

(Picard, FC) "Well, this is certainly worthy of our attention."

(Riker, all the time) "What the hell was that?!"

(More Riker) "Dammit. What the hell is going on?!"

(Noonien Soong) "Why? Why -- why?"

(Data [to any pet]) "You are disrupting my ability to work." -and- "This is down. Down is good! This is up. Up is no."

(David Marcus [used only once, immediately prior to a barfight]) "I kknnew it, you son of a bitch!"

    And many, many others.

    haha wonderfull..

Well If I've learned one thing from Star Trek than it's the open mindedness (or how you want to call it). Especially in DS9 faith and "non-faith" collide together several times. I use a lot of quotes in that kind of discussions. In this way I keep my tolerance for believers.

Sometimes I use other quotes just for fun.. as in we need to hurry when we travel by car.. well.. going to warp speed and than buckle up ;) and hold tight :)

but furthermore, I use ST as a relax moment at the end of the day..

I actually said last night, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

And my wife responded, "Or the one!"

When working in a pub and having to go outside for a ciggie I would nominate a co-worker and say 'Number one, you have the bridge'. They looked very confused at first then caught on and I caught others saying it. I assimilated them!:)

Though not a dramatic moment I did quote ST just yesterday. Wishing to add holly bushes to my garden I noticed that there were already 2 different types of Holly planted. They looked and grew exactly alike so if it weren't for the tags, I would not have been able to tell them apart or even have known that they were of differing variety. When deciding which type to buy to match what we already had, I quoted Spock and said that it really did not matter since they looked and grew exactly alike and "A difference that makes no difference is no difference". I believe Spock said this though I am not sure of the episode.
