Rock covers. When the cover was better.

ITL, Elbow are a great band! :techman:

Double posting issues :vulcan: Meant this to be an edit...
Even though I only saw it on TV, Elbow playing Grace Under Pressure at Glastonbury a few years back was.....awesome.

And they were pretty damn good this year, as well (Again, only saw it on TV).

And Guy's radio show is great. A truly nice guy and excellent musician.

The Flaming Lips do a great Bohemian Rhapsody, but it is not better than the original.
I recall The Flaming Lips covering a Kylie song on a TV show, once. They turned it into a rare old slice of weirdness. Hehehehe.

Can't Get You Out Of My Head (googled it as it's 1.15am). Their version of Karma Police was no where near as good as the Radiohead version.

Interesting with Radiohead, most cover versions suck - but Gnarls Barkley's version of Reckoner would be one of the few Radiohead songs which can match the original version.

^ In my circle of musician friends it is an unspoken rule that we never cover Radiohead tracks, chances of doing them justice are slim at best.

Proud Mary? CCRs original version is just about as perfect a rock song as was ever made.
A matter of opinion and personal preference, I suppose. I like a few songs, but I've never been overly fond of CCR and I'm pretty certain that the Ike & Tina Turner Revue's cover of "Proud Mary" was my first exposure to the song (probably here) and remains my favorite one.

That's just me, though. :p

Disturbed covering the Genesis song Land of Confusion

Iced Earth does a better job of God of Thunder than KISS.

It certainly is a matter of opinion and exposure. For me, one of the first ten LPs I owned was Bayou Country by CCR. Beyond the long jams on the record, Proud Mary seemed to me then, and still now, to be 3:08 of perfect rock 'n' roll song writing and performance.

But I can certainly see any young boy being attracted by Tina Turner shakin' her booty. Those legs, man, those legs! :p

And "The Name of the Game" with Gene Barry. You're reaching now, M'Sharak! I remember that show well. Part of a rotating series on NBC. Wasn't McCloud one of the other shows in rotation?

[/B].
Always thought it was epitome of a bad cover. hard band covers a softer band material and makes it sound like very other hard band covering a softer bands material beacuse they always use the same gimmicks.
