Early TNG premiere promos

I remember those. I was about nine or ten at the time, and I would wait anxiously to see the next set in the countdown ads as it got closer and closer to the two-hour premier of TNG.

Thanks!

I still remember the one for 4 days 'til Star Trek. Must've been Thursday, October 24th 1987.

There's one promo for season 4 I could never find that had a Viking stepping out from the shadows while the voiceover said something like " Since the dawn of history..manking has felt the need to explore." then there's Magellan or Drake hen an Apollo astronaut then we see Picard & crew beam in...anyone remember that one?

I've always been curious about the buzz surrounding The Next Generation. I know that it was highly-anticipated. Hell, I can even vaguely recall some of it when I was little (episode promo on the TVH VHS, cereal offers, etc).

Was anyone expecting the series to tank? At the time this was a totally new thing of bringing on a new Star Trek series with different characters, so I'd say the stakes were pretty high.

^^^ Hi...I was 13 when the show started and I was excited as all hell.

It's hard to say what the fans felt because it was harder to talk to them all before the internet, and I wasn't part of any fan club.
Starlog the sci-fi magazine had a report before the show started , or maybe it was something I read in the Trek comics by DC, that there were some fans that were going to boycott TNG because Kirk&co. weren't in it!

At least among the people I knew at the time, who were more general SF or Doctor Who fans than Trek fans, the general feeling was that it wouldn't win them over, and the Trek fans wouldn't accept anything without the old crew.
Turned out we were wrong on both counts.

Very nostalgiac. I remember the one introducing the characters that descibed Deanna as "the telepathic Troi." Times change in a hurry!

That was cool. I remember Cheerios having a big STTNG promo. I think I remember seeing a promo on the STIV:TVH VHS movie.

I found these on YouTube tonight. I love how in this first one there isn't a single shot from Next Generation. However, regardless of that, it's still really exciting to watch!

I was actually IN the Australian promos for TNG. There were two of them, featuring members of our then-ST club.

"They've seen it! They love it!" said the voiceover guy, as we described our favourite characters, interspersed with Season One and Two footage. (We had a twelve-month "video holdback" on a commercial TV release of TNG in Australia and New Zealand, because the series was being released on monthly two-eps-per-tape sell-thru VHS.)

I recently found my video copy and made some stills from the promos. (One day, I should learn how to upload video to Youtube!)

I still have my Cheerios promotional poster (the Probert Ent-D painting from the ready room) along with the blue plastic Enterprise-D toy...with detachable saucer section.

Yes and VNRs sent out to the news stations had interviews with Sirtis stating that Troi's abilities steam from Betazoids having slightly larger brains which also caused them to be "super-duper" intelligent. She says that she'd be the brains of the show or the Mr. Spock of TNG. Wonder how much that was true in the first-season or Roddenberry blowing smoke up her ass?

After all these years I never saw the promos until just now. I thought i saw everything TNG.

I thought TNG premiered in September 1987?
