Iron Man made 300 million bucks at the box office and I doubt most of the people who went to see that film had any idea who Pepper Potts or The Iron Monger were.
Ra's wasn't well known, but Batman Begins was about Batman, not the villain. Once you establish Batman in your franchise, then the draw is most likely going to be the villain.

This is absolutely correct. Remember the end of Begins, when Batman flipped over the card the the Joker was revealed? The audience went nuts, a reaction that was echoed in theaters all across the country. People weren't saying "Holy shit there's going to be another Batman movie!" They were saying "Holy shit it's THE JOKER!" And this was long before Heath Ledger was cast. It's the villain, baby.
Name recognition and expectations are everything. Batman-and-Joker bring immediate expectations. Batman-and-Catwoman bring immediate expectations. Batman-and-Talia bring "Who the hell is that?"

Catwoman isn't really much of a main villain. She's a side villain, or troublesome ally/foil at her best.
Exactly. Look what they did with Ra's Al Ghul.I think it's a given that any of the remaining villains will be re-imagined in a more realistic way, so a villain being too 'out there' means nothing.
Paul Giamatti?"And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman."
The Riddler - jonny depp or Jim Carrey to reprise
Penguin - phillip seymour hoffman or Danny Devito to reprise
That said, I still want to see David Hyde Pierce as a smug, creepy and hyper-intelligent version of the Riddler.
Only if his brother Frasier Nygma shows up
What Joker situation? His story is over. Reference him or show him in the shadows at Arkham Aslyum, but anything more is unnecessary.I think the first thing the writing staff is going to have work on is the joker situation.
Preach it!Robin Williams for The Riddler!
This must happen!-Detective Renee Montoya: Jennifer Esposito
Only if his brother Frasier Nygma shows up
Niles Nygma: There you are! [Batman looks up] Yes, I'm talking to you, strudel boy! No one seduces my wife and gets away with it! You probably thought because of my refined bearing and swimmer's build that I wouldn't put up a fight for the woman I love. But you're dead wrong, because real men have a thing called "honor!" [Batman stands up and is significantly taller than Niles] Yow! You wouldn't know about that, would you?
Frasier Nygma: Niles...
Niles Nygma: You wouldn't know how decent people behave.
Frasier Nygma: Niles...
Niles Nygma: You wouldn't know the meaning of the word "rectitude!"
Frasier Nygma: Niles, he wouldn't know the meaning of the word "dog," "cat," or "pencil!" He doesn't speak English, remember?! [Batman growls in his gravely voice]
Oh, THAT'S the way to go... yeah......glad I'm getting people on the Talia band wagon!!
Unfortunately Talia is not a box office draw. The general moviegoer has no idea who she is. With Catwoman though you've got instant name recognition and a greater potential for $$$.
That is true. I've read around the net there are reports that Angelina Jolie is interested in it.
Ummm... who is "Monica Baccrin?"Here would be my idealized cast for Batman 3...
-Batman/Bruce Wayne: Christian Bale
-Alfred Pennyworth: Michael Caine
-Commishiner James Gordon: Gary Oldman
-Lucious Fox: Morgan Freeman
-Detective Renee Montoya: Eva Mendes or Jennifer Esposito
-Selina Kyle/Catwoman: Monica Baccrin
-Peguin: Philip Seymour Hoffman or Bob Hoskins
-Talia al Ghul: Kate Beckinsale
-Ra's al Ghul (Flashback sequences): Liam Neeson
(Oh, and the guy playing Dent in this last movie... the fact that he's an virtual unknown clearly explains the HORRIBLE box-office this movie is doing.)
I like Morena Baccarin as much as the next guy but seriously...acting along with Oscar caliber actors? Nope. Maggie Gyllenhaal could barely handle the screen with Bale, Ledger and Eckhart. For Catwoman, you need someone like Jolie, Rachel Weisz, Kate Beckinsale, Emily Mortimer or Cate Blanchett.
