Most under rated actor/actress in Trek

James Doohan. Jimmy was an excellent dramatic actor with much work before TOS. Watch 'Wold in the Fold' for great dramatic acting. Yet he could also inject comedy as well. His bumping his head in the movie is classic, as well as the bit in ST:TVH when he talks to the computer.

I'd have to go with Siddig El Fadil or Robert Duncan McNeill. I don't think Paris was used to his potential by the writers on Voyager, and suffered in that respect. When he did get a chance, he shined.

Avery Brooks. Yes, I know he could sometimes overact, and sometimes his physical "tics" could be a little strange, but there were many moments during DS9 that I was just mesmerized by his work, especially in many of the quieter, low-key moments during Seasons 3-5.

And, I didn't know so many disliked Blalock - I thought she did an excellent job in her role. In fact, T'Pol was the only character I liked on Enterprise (ok, also liked Phlox, to a somewhat lesser degree), largely b/c of her acting

I was always really impressed by Cirroc Lofton when he got a decent role.

I also think Alexander Siddig shone as Bashir in what was probably one of hardest and, early on anyway, pretty thankless roles in Trek.

I would agree that Colm Meany is very underrated and his character is overall the best of the lower ranking Starfleet officers. Enterprise's Linda Park and Dominc Keating are similarily underrated.

Jennifer Lien, Kate Mulgrew and Roxann Dawson are underrated Voyager actresses, while Garret Wang was underrated on occasion where he shone in spite of the mostly bland character he played.

Jeri Ryan, William Shatner and Brent Spiner are underrated 'overrated' ST performers who are all great at the end of the day, even though they take a lot of shit from some quarters of fandom.

Diana Muldaur as Pulaski, under-rated.
We have a winner. :bolian:

Also excellent in both of her TOS roles.

I don't think Colm Meaney is underrated, but that's doubtless entirely a product of where I live - he's acknowledged as pretty great.

As for someone who nobody has mentioned, I'll go with... uh... Tim Russ. He was fantastic as Tuvok, despite only seldom being given material to work with. One of the best Vulcan performances in the franchise.

Jennifer Lien

Everyone wrote her off because the writers didn't write Kes very well, but when Jen got stuff to do in episodes like Elogium, Warlord, and Before and After, she pulled it off so very well. Voyager really did have such a strong female cast that could have been used so much better.

I think that one of the most underappreciated actors in Trek is Colm Meaney of DS9 and TNG. As Chief O'Brien, some of the meatiest storylines in DS9 went to him and he never disappointed. The episode "Hard Time" where he spent 20 years in a virtual prison, was probably his best. I've seen him in other films he's done (Layer Cake & The Englishman Who Went up a Hill...) and he is one of the best actors overall in all of Trek.

Agreed, his body of work outside of Trek is fantastic. In fact, I can't think of anything non-Trek related that he was in that wasn't good. Con Air was a shit movie, and his character sucked, but Meaney still did a great job.

I always felt that John Winston (Lt Kyle) was also underrated, he was able to take a few lines and make a memorable character.

I have to disagree on the Diana Muldaur I have always felt she was way overrated. I my opinon she plays the same angry women in every show i have seen her in.

Jonathan Frakes--now he's underrated. Riker was the only character whose actor didn't seem to me, in that first season, like he was about to die on stage. I think they should have used Frakes more, and I also respect his direction of actors and of action sequences in "First Contact."
That's true, he pretty much had the character right from the pilot.

The Horta in "Thedevil in the dark" was excellent! (They did use a real Horta..........................didn't they?)
It was planned to use a live one, but the Horta's asking price was almost as high as Shatner's.

He sure could do a lot with a few lines.
