Tragically someone already inflicted this insane atrocity upon me.

Wait a minute! If sombreros are infecting pictures in the Doctor Who section of the board that means the walls between boards is collapsing. That's bad. Very bad. It means the end of the entire forum!

You know, I had to uncheck the show all avatars button in the profile page because of this sombrero thing and I didn't think it would end up in the Doctor Who forum. I still can't believe this whole thing is still going on.

I didn't know you could quote somebody's avatar.

It's even more fun when you mess with stuff.

Is it actually possible to quote an avatar? I just copied the image address, then quoted Gep Malakai's post, erased the text, and pasted in the image. (It took longer to explain than to do.) Is there a "real" way to quote an avatar?

You can simply highlight the av image and surrounding text, right-click copy and paste it into a quoted post or set of quote tags. (One thing you do want be careful about, though, doing things that way, is to avoid posting hotlinked images when copy/pasting from off-board sources such as news articles.)

By the way, is somebody saving these Sombrero avatars? Otherwise they're all lost as soon as the user changes their avatar to something else. It would be a shame if all of the Sombrero images in the thread are saved for posterity but the avatars are lost.

A couple of people went through the thread a while back and made copies of all of the images contained within posts and archived them. One provided a link to a downloadable Zip file, if I recall correctly. I'm not sure if that applied to avatars not so posted.

I posted, as you said, just the inline images (which did include a few avatars) but not the user avatars because I felt they were personal to each user and I didn't think it would be appreciated making them all so readily available. I will be posting another zip file at the end of the month covering everything since the last one.

I'd imagine a lot of people have copies of sombrero avs they themselves have used archived in image-host folders or files on HD, though some will undoubtedly have been lost already. Perhaps a "Post your Sombrero Avatar" thread might serve to round up some of the strays for posterity.

But seriously (In this thread!?). As I told M'Sharak, I never really expected the clip to go over very well in the Doctor Who forum. I intentionally filled the thing with as many Sombrero in-jokes as possible. Someone who hasn't been following this thread simply wouldn't get all of the little nods to the previous 1,500 posts.
