The Return of Rare Photos!

So, wow. When I procrastinate, I do it with style! It was August of 2007 when I last did a "Rare Photos" special. Now, July of 2008, the specials have returned with the latest edition! There is just sooooooo much source material, it's like sorting individual blood cells. Same token, I've got loads of TNG and TOS. Good selection of Voyager. Next to nothing for DS9 or ENT. Which just suxors, IMHO.

That's the best clear shot I've seen of the blue-skinned ST VI UFP alien and his outfit! It's funny how he's wearing his sash, though. More like a collar? Perhaps the wardrobe fluffers hadn't got to him yet?

I just recently won an identical sash from the "It's a Wrap!" auctions, and I thought, in the movie, everyone had their sashes over one shoulder, with the "bow" section by the hip.

I wish I had the originals. There where 30 photos in all, I believe. I have to wonder if any of those other 28 showed the naughty bits. They sold on e-Bay for a small fortune a few months back. I asked the seller to donate higher-resolution SCANS - not the originals, just SCANS - for use on the site. He wasn't a Trekkie, and saw no reason as such. Though I've met many Trekkies who've turned me down, too. Only a few have been nice enough to share their rare materials. Surprising, when you think on it. No one profits from these specials except the entire community as a whole. It's preservation of history, IMHO. Why whorde it? Share, damn you!

They where done by some famed photographer. I don't recall who. I want to say Annie Lebowitz - most recently embroiled in that Miley Cyrus backless fiasco about nothing - but I don't think I'd be correct.

Why they got rid of the silver suit, I'll never understand. Nore will many of the male demographic's southern regions.

There is something terribly wrong with Janeway's head in comparision to her body. That pic is just every so slightly off.

The rest are fantastic, and Jeri's made my eyes pop.

Hell yeah. Its truly great. They just don't do cast pictures like that any more. A colour version would be awesome. Nice, blown up HD colour would be even better

Sadly, as these are *RARE* images, the odds of us obtaining such are next to none. Which just sucks.

Um, no. That was the Borg outfit. The neck was too tight because they neglected to take the bald cap into account when they built it. When Jeri turned her head, the pressure cut off circulation through her carotid.

The silver suit was retired because it was too reflective and wreaked havoc with lighting a shot.

I actually just got ahold of an alternate TOS cast photo. The photo itself has been seen once and a blue moon, but only in B&W. I got ahold of a color copy. Truly vintage; it's been in a warehouse since the mid-70's that someone just bought out and is selling the contents of. There are only 3 full and posed publicity style cast photos from TOS, I believe. The one we often see, the one that blocks Nichelle's head, and this one. (I don't count the 80's photoshopped version with Nichelle moved as it wasn't done in the 60s). So for all intents and purposes this is the only other "good" one outside of the oft-seen one.
