Cyd Charisse dies at 86.

Great dancer, particularly memorable in Singin' in the Rain and The Band Wagon. That latter musical I found to be kinda draggy but worth watching for the "gangster" sequence at the end (and the "triplets" sequence, which is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen in a musical).

I just saw this on Yahoo.

Sad to hear as she was a very lovely and talented gal who was wonderful in so many shows.

She and Gene Kelly are dancing on clouds tonight.

RIP

What fascinated me when watching the two of them together was how effortlessly they moved together... and all with a height difference that seemed atypical for Hollywood at the time. Kelly was not exactly tall, and Charisse had those lovely long legs. Yet they were so seamless, so marvelous.

Proof of how uniquely talented they both were.

I think you'd appreciate her in "Brigadoon" as well.

That's the only place I've seen her, and I *did* appreciate it. :techman:
That was a special show, to be sure.

She does have a famous niece as well.
Whoa, what a perfect lineage. I'm not sure if I never knew that or had jsut plain forgotten it! Thanks for the reminder.

She was great. I'm really sad to hear this.

For anyone who is interested, I'm sure TCM will be making programming changes to do a tribute for her - they usually do when a classic film star passes away.

Not many left..... :(

Another one of the greats from the Golden Age of Hollywood musicals gone. I love her films and especially "The Band Wagon" - she and Fred Astaire dancing together are just breathtaking.

Here's a lovely story about the gracious person she was offscreen. It's posted on the All That Chat theatre board:

I posted this in the "Legs" forum as well, for obvious reasons.

Cyd, thank God we got you on film.

Nuts, now I have to go back and re-watch that clip just to see that at 2:21. Of course, YouTube is blocked here at work ...... and with good reason.
