Had Sisko "lived"

Sisko's future had he not 'died' at the end of DS9

I know he comes back in the books, but discounting those, at the end of the The Dominion war, and had Sisko not taken that plunge off the cliff at the end of WHAT YOU LEAVE BEHIND, do you think Sisko would have remained at DS9 as captain? Or would his actions during the war have gotten him a promotion. I mean, Janeway got one for getting her ship home. Shouldn't Sisko have earned another pip since he not only took care of the Maquis problem, he is also given much credit for his actions during the Dominion War.

Where was Sisko's future headed had he not 'died' at the end of DS9?

I think Starfleet would certainly have offered him promotion, and he would equally certainly have turned that down to retire to Bajor with Kasidy and the baby. No question in my mind.

Yep...I agree. I think you can argue that he did more in seven years, in terms as a starfleet officer and as a religious icon, than Kirk-Picard-Janeway ever could have....plus he became a father again..

I surely miss Benjamin Sisko. I found him to be the most realistic captain that ever starred in a STAR TREK show...IMO

Oh, I agree. Ben Sisko was great. James Kirk was one of my biggest heroes from earliest childhood, eclipsed perhaps only by Superman. But Ben Sisko was a real person--capable of great heroism, to be sure, but also human and flawed and able to make mistakes (so was Kirk, but the difference in how TV characters were written in the 1960s vs. the 1990s made it possible for Ben to be all the more real and developed).

Plus--Ben venerated Jim Kirk as one of his greatest heroes. So the man obviously had good taste. It's nice to think that the most compelling captain out of all the latter-day Trek series was a TOS fan.

Wow..I read this and thought I WROTE it...I totally agree. Jim Kirk was one of my favorite heroes as a child, with only Steve McGarret as a challenge. You and I think alike..and it is cool that they made him a TOS fan...

But watch out..praising TOS in these parts can get a target planted on your back..watch out..

I think that Starfleet would have offered him a promotion shortly after the end of the war. If Sisko would have been able to remain in the Bajor sector he probably would have remained in Starfleet for a few months. As soon as his child was born, he would have retired to the quite life of father and Emissary on Bajor, though.

Ben Sisko's dream was to settle on Bajor with Kassidy. I see no reason to believe he would have done anything else. Of course, this is exactly what he did do in the books. And since DS9 is never going to be continued on tv, the Relaunch's story is the truth as far as I'm concerned.

I have no idea what you're talking about. The endless stream of best series polls over in General Trek make it quite clear that the majority of Niners love TOS.

and then he would have gone and kicked Gul Pah Wraith's ass all over the Fire Caves (if hadn't done it already)

I don't think he was quite ready to give up command of DS9 ...I think he'd have done a few more years before retiring. He'd have turned down any promotion offered.

No way..Cassidy would not have allowed it LOL...she had him by the balls towards the end of that show. I think he would have retired to Bajor. carved him self a wooden pipe, and sat back on a rocking chair on the porch waiting for Kassidy to make some lemonade. Eventually rocking their little baby in his arms as well!!

Probably it is a forgone conclusion that Sisko would have made Admiral, but Sisko would have for all things tuned it down no question.

Couldn't agree more.

I think he would have remained Commander of DS9. The Emissary would have to remain of Bajor. And protect Bajor as best he could.

In season 6 he said that he would go wherever he was sent. I would imagine given his actions and his various responsibilities and acolades during the dominion war, he would have had his choice of assignment. Probably Starfleet would have asked if he wanted to remain in Command of DS9, he would have said yes, they would have probably put more pips on his collar anyway. If Janeway gets the Admiralty for her work on Voyager, a crucial strategist and combat officer for a war that could have destroyed the entire federation should get you a bump and the ability to write your own ticket as far as assignments go.

I could easily imagine that he would have been offerred many lucrative and interesting positions within Starfleet. Possibly Starfleet Chief of Staff to the President due to his strategic skills.

That would have been an interesting turn of events. With the Pah Wraiths defeated, it shouldn't have been essential for the Emissary to remain on Bajor itself.
