It's official...Generation Y is definitely brain dead

:sigh:

It makes me cry myself to sleep at night how many people thought that piece of shit was a great, stellar, and awesome film-making.

It's "great" that people liked it but to this extent, that it's the "best movie EVAHHHH!!!!" is just absurd and ridiculous.

THAT was the best movie last year? Seriously? Really? I mean, COME ON! What was so great about it. Beyond, "OMG!!! GIANT ROBOTS THAT TURN INTO CARS!!!!!!!!" It wasn't even well made with horrendous "acting", horrendously done action scenes and a "lead star" that makes you want to kick youself in the head.

Christ!

I give up on humanity. You're all on your own now.

Give up on humanity, what? Please! I call this win 'poetic justice' for being snubbed by the Oscars in the Special Effects category.:rommie::cardie:

As for that patriotic piece of shit ID4; with Transformers I was at least able to enjoy myself, even if the CGI got a little too intense at times. With ID4, I was retching from the patriotism. Maybe chalk this win up to pissed-off Transformers fans blitzing the MTV website with their vote?

Oh, and to be honest, I thought this was a thread about the adaptation of the graphic novel series Y-The Last Man. Coincidentally, Shia Lebouf is tagged for that movie as well!

This thread, and a lot of fan threads lately brings up a 'quote' from another user. I can't remeber who it was but it went something like this:

'He's a tool for not liking everything I do.-Typical internet fanboy.' Seriously. People like what they like. No different than music, books, or video games.

As an 18 year old (I guess that means I'm Generation Y but I've never heard that expression before) I felt the best movie last year was Breach. A solid film all around with a fantastic last scene.

This thread just makes some of you sound like a bunch of grumpy old men.

Is there another thread somewhere were we talk about how good music was 20 years ago and now its just noise?

Yea, it's not really fair to classify what movies MTV viewers voted for. We're talking about the majority of the people voting in the movie awards are those who watch MTV.

If you're willing to watch Tila Tequila's reality show, The Hills, or whiney 16 year old girls getting a bajillion dollars spent on their sweet 16 then you probably are brain dead. It's not really fair to say an entire generation is because of what MTV viewers picked though.

That's one of my sigs. Don't remember who the user was (he's probably not even here anymore), but he posted that on TrekBBS in response to Roger Ebert not liking Stealth. I never asked him this, but wouldn't Ebert actually be a tool if he did like everything this guy did?

While I am glad to see a rare burst of taste amd intelligence from you, I have to ask what you expect from the MTV Movie Awards.

I always thought this thing was kind of a joke anyway.

Isn't this the dumb show where a category is "best kiss" and "best onscreen couple"?

I would be a little shocked if a piece of shit like this was NOT in the running for best film.

Maybe I'm getting old... but who exactly classifies as 'generation Y'?

Those born from 1979 to 1997. Which means I'm Generation Y and not Generation X. Which makes me sad. :(

EDIT:

Nevermind. Y-Geners are from 1980-2000. Which puts me in the clear back into Generation X!

:D

Yeah - I think of Gen Y'ers as brain dead ADD-afflicted morons who wear "hoodies" and cannot have a conversation that does not include words of more than one syllable.

The actual *award* is a golden popcorn bowl. I mean, seriously, what do you expect?
Everybody knows that MTV formats audiences. I enjoyed TF2007 for what it was a popcorn movie (burritos, as a matter of fact) and I certainly didn't expect Optimus Prime to teach me lessons in life. But if I were 14 again, who knows?

It's only a movie, folks. Don't get to worked up about it. This, like Indy IV have people that acutally liked the movie. And for the record, I thought Transformers was AWESOME. I said it. AWESOME! From the moment Optimus Prime opens the movie, to the final climax of the last battle, I was hooked. Geeze. Some of the movie going world have forgotten how to just let go, and go a long for the ride. They see outlnes of blue screen and say things like, 'it took me completely out of the movie'. Imagine if those people were around when ILM just got started, and matte lines were common!

Some people also see a movie where Shia Lebouf rambles incessantly, the action scenes look like a katamari-ball, the *MAIN CHARACTERS AND DRAW OF THE MOVIE* are relegated back to comic relief and aren't all that big parts of the plot, a movie with entire plot threads that don't matter, go nowhere and waste time and too much time is spent on "funny" stuff like Sam's little buddy trying to climb a tree or that absurd backyard scene.

Some people can go see a Summer Action movie and be entertained by the spectacle and action it but also find the action it well done and the characters engaging. Iron Man, I'm praising you.

I'm completely able to go into a movie and enjoy it, snack on popcorn and just go for the ride. Transformers made me want to kill children. Transformers made me want to jam my roll of sweet-tarts into my eyes, Transformers made me wish I would choke to death on my nachos, Transformers made me cry and weap for the future of humanity because so many people loved it and praised it.

Good God man. It was obviously not the best film of last year but its a perfectly decent film, certainly above average by cinema release standards. It won't be remembered as a classic but I'm baffled by the amount of vitriol, a lot of which seems to come from people who say the action sequences (pretty much the whole point of the film) were poorly done. They weren't, they had some of the best special effects I've ever seen and were easy to follow, maybe if you couldn't keep up you really are getting old?

As for the plot stuff, who cares? It could have been a lot better, it wasn't, there were cool explosions, hundreds of cars flew through the air, let it go.

And, on top of it... this movie was just plain boring!!

And they even botched the final shot! The match-moving between the live-action plate and the CG-elements was asynchonous!

And we love you too.*

*lack of syllables deliberate

As for this thread, I think that everyone should be remind that opinion is hardly the same as fact, nor is taste. I for one can't stand either Stargate (for the most part, naturally). Does this mean that I think that they're terrible and that anyone who watches them are brain-dead? Hardly. It just means that they aren't to my taste.

But then, I'm wishy-washy like that. :p

The MTV Awards are bullshit. They don't really count for anything, so why does it really matter? The real travesty is that No Country for Old Men won best picture at the Oscars, that movie was boring as fuck. Juno was way better. No Country for Old Men almost put me to sleep. There Will Be Blood was good too.

Yeah I know it's aggravating when crap like Pirates of the Caribbean and SG:A win People's Choice Awards, but I guess people are stupid. Oh well.

Impressive. I'm damned curious to know the sheer volume of posters on this board you insulted in one post, Temis. I think this might be a new record.

As for Transformers, I didn't watch it when it was a cartoon aimed at my age group, and in no way, shape or form was I about to watch that film. Didn't like it then, not going to like it now.

I think it's important to realize that the original 'toon wasn't that great a classic either. It was basically produced to sell a toy line, and most of it's fanbase rides on nostalgia (Granted, a similar excuse is used for Star Wars by prequel fans, but it's generally aknowledged the originals are quality). Even giant robot 'toons that are also toy/model commercials have been done better anyway with the Japanese Gundam series.

And Pirates of the Carribean was just a slightly popular ride at Disneywherever. Look what happened there.

Just because the inspiration of the movie has thin meit doesn't mean the movie has to be just as thin.

A better Transformers movie could've been possible with a director with an ounce of talent.
