Steeler world

Having been in Pittsburgh for just under the past two years, the Steelers are big here. Truth be told, I though I'd never truly be a fan of football (believe me, there have been prior attempts, but all have failed), but being around this environment, it gets into you. Steeler tradition and the notion that anyone can be a fan gets in you, as it did me. I even now have a custom Steelers jersey waiting for the preseason. So now, I'm one of the Steeler Nation.

I have read that Steelers have one of the most loyal fan bases in the country, spreading out all the way to California. Having been here at the home office for as long as I have, I believe it.

Ah how did he loose? He disproved your point that somehow the Steelers have the largest US fanbase cause they have bars around the country. He showed you that other teams do as well. Sorry bud, but the Steelers right now, are just a another NFL team, not the HUGE fanbase that you speak of.

Dude did you go to the link? You do not have that number of hang outs dedicated to your team without the fandom to fill them. Im sure some of these bars are not there anymore but the sheer number speaks volumes to my point. I just shut down his argument thats all.

Yep I did, and guess what...I don't care. There is no way to quantify the number of fans that a team has...so its dumb to make a statement like "we have the largest fanbase". Its your observation, but it does not make it fact.

Reading this thread will be so much sweeter during the NFL season when Tom Brady and the Pats kick the crap out of "Big Ben" and the rest of the Steelers.

Sorry but without being able to cheat you probably wont get to 8 and 8. Please don't be upset that most of your fans are bandwagon jumpers.

Waaawaa! Please cry me a river about the cheating, its getting old.

Sorry that the Pats are STILL the best team in the NFL, and the Steelers will have to play catch up. I love listening to fans of a team defend them even though they know they are the inferior team.

Oh good, I was afraid we were getting away from dumb posts and regurgitated ESPN Talking Head stories.

1. stealing signals isn't illegal, or even cheating. VIDEOTAPING them, however, is. All the arguments seem to be about how stealing signals is wrong, ignoring that pretty much every team tries to do so, using various methods. Sorta the reason they use 2-3 guys to signal plays, with 2 of those guys actually just decoys, and why they change the signals every game, and sometimes during a game.

2. Surely you'd have to admit that this year, the Patriots were watched like a hawk, to make sure they weren't cheating, no? Not only did they do better than 8-8, as I recall, they went 16-0 in the regular season, 18-1 overall. They were one defensive play away from 19-0, and they had their chances, just couldn't make the last play when they needed to. No cheating at any point in that run, not that anyone has been able to determine. Other than fanboy wishes, what would you say backs up your assertation that they couldn't get to 8-8 without cheating (the Steelers' record in 2006, BTW)?

3. Without cheating, the Pats spanked the Steelers 34-13 this year. And it was only THAT close because the Pats pulled their starters after halftime, pretty much.

4. When talking about "bandwagon fans" earlier, you seemed to ignore the point about how between your own "dynasty" years in the 70s and the 2005 Superbowl win, there were certainly just as many bandwagon Steelers fans. They've even had time to have kids of their own, which I'd imagine they would raise as Steelers fans. Odd, huh? Hell, if anything, you've proven that you seem to be on the NEWEST bandwagon around the country: Patriots haters. ;) Call it hatred, jealousy, whathaveyou, it's certainly the trendy bandwagon to be on at the moment.

So...?

Excellent post Scout....excellent!
I don't mind rational discourse, and can even talk about faults with my own teams. The Rah Rah Rah Go Team! crap is fairly useless, however. Especially if you start off with some easily-disproven crap about how you're the best out there, no one else is close, etc...

According to a 2007 Harris poll (sample size 1,182 adults who follow pro football; they were each asked to name their two favorite teams), the most popular team is currently the Dallas Cowboys, followed by the Indianapolis Colts. The Steelers came in third, but were #1 in 2006.

For as much as that means (not much, in my opinion). Interesting how Super Bowl winners always end up near the top of the list! :)

edited to add: Scout101, I dare you to cheer for the Pirates. It's not for the faint of heart. The Red Sox used to be known for losing just at the brink of a championship, meaning that they often have competitive seasons. The Pirates are about to set a new record for consecutive losing seasons at 16.

True, MOST of the time, the Sox would snag defeat from the jaws of victory. Even when they were losing, they at least would give you hope, which was often crueler ;)

And yeah, not cheering for the Pirates. Just Nate Mclouth, and only because I got him as a sleeper pick in my fantasy leagues :)

Thanks for your graciousness. :)

I think I will try to avoid this thread from now on, because the temptation to become nasty towards Patriots fans is just too great-- it is purely due to being really tired of watching them beat the Steelers!

Hey scout the list of steeler bars in new england is damn near as long as your whole list. By the way I was born in 72. I have bled black and gold from the first day i have drawn breath. Oh yhea and the steelers sold out others stadiums when they where not that good of a team.

How many times have you been to away games of your team, mister super-fan?

Cannot afford to go. But I have not missed more than the equivilent of 4 games in 30 years. I have cussed people out for interrupting the game while I am watching.

I am on the hate the pats bandwagon because I hate cheaters.

Also the steelers are sold out as far as season tickets go for the next 25 to 30 years and that was even back during the 80's when they just barely where competitive. Red sox may have this but I doubt the pats do. I was ready to give the pats respect until spygate. When the pats finish their fall shortly you two jokers will go find another wagon to jump on. I mean the bruins suck, you rooting for the redwings now? By the way I hate hockey.

Cannot afford to go.

Then you have no right to brag about the attendence of Steelers-supporters at away games.

edited to add, btw. just in case the last comment was directed at me: I'm not a fan of any NFL club, just the sport, although I kind of like the Jets, and usually root for whoever the Patriots are playing against (and not because of the cheating-thing, I did before that already).

Right, because you climbed on the bandwagon when they were on top. You root either for the hometown team, or the team that's winning a lot when you grow up. Since the Steelers fill both requirements, you became a Steelers fan. Just like the bandwagon Cowboys, Packers, Dolphins, 49ers, and Patriots fans you're doing your best to discredit! :techman:

I have cussed people out for interrupting the game while I am watching.
you must be a joy to be around!

Rather than throw that around, care to actually address it? You're aware that stealing signals is perfectly legal, and done by every team, right? The Patriots 'cheated' on a technicality, that you can't film it so you can go back and watch later. If it was a guy in the stands with a polaroid camera or binoculars, they'd be doing the same thing every other team is doing. You're on the Pat Hater bandwagon because it's fashionable to do so, or you just like parroting whatever ESPN leads with on Sportscenter...

Ah, more talking about stuff you don't understand. Here's the number for the Patriots' ticket office: 800-543-1776. Why don't you call up and ask for season tickets, tell them you heard there isn't a wait. They'll laugh you right off of the phone. It's just about impossible to get a regular-season single game (I've tried), so good luck with season tickets! As for the Red Sox, you're not even close. There's about a 10,000 person waiting list (last time I heard), and it hasn't moved a single spot in years. If you got on the list today, you might make it in 30 years or so, if they build a new stadium or go through a prolonged rough patch, maybe?

I was ready to give the pats respect until spygate.
And then Sportscenter told you not to. You clearly don't understand the issue well enough to have made that decision on your own, if you were "ready to give the Pats respect" before the story broke. Especially if you STILL aren't ready after they were one defensive stop away from a 19-0 perfect season (all carefully monitored, no possibility of any funny business this year).

When the pats finish their fall shortly
Really? The Pats are 28-4 in the regular season over the past two years, and played in the AFC championship and the Superbowl. The Steelers are 18-14, and lost in the Wild Card round in their one playoff apperance. Who's falling? Tell you what? Care to make a wager? If the Pats don't make the playoffs, I'll wear a Steelers avatar for the entire playoff run. Will you wear a Patriots avatar if the Steelers don't make it? I'm pretty confident I won't be changing MINE, so it's an easy wager for me to make. You, superfan?

you two jokers will go find another wagon to jump on.
Funny, you said in another post that you respected fans of other teams. Push comes to shove, and it's just hot air, and anyone who doesn't waive a stupid yellow towel during a football game is a bandwagon fan, and a joker? Picking apart your nonsense is amusing, but a rational discussion would be a lot more fun, if you can manage...

I mean the bruins suck, you rooting for the redwings now? By the way I hate hockey.
Lost the football AND baseball arguments, and didn't want to bring up basketball because the Celtics are having a good year and the 76ers have been golfing for weeks, so you skip to hockey? Not a hockey fan, so couldn't care less either way. Bruins DID make the playoffs this year, though, and came damned close to upsetting a much better team, so there's that. And honestly, with the way you present yourself, I'd be tempted to root for the Red Wings over the Penguins this year just out of spite. Means I'd have to watch hockey, though, so I'll pass...

Well I was gonna reply to his bandwagon jokers comment, but I believe Scout covered that one pretty nicely. So, continue....

I dont care how you attempt to break down my posts you two lost. You where proven wrong and cannot deal. I bet you before they started winning you could get season tickets very easily now you cant cause they are on top. I hate cheaters period and I don't even watch sportscenter. so you don't know what you speak of. And who give a fuck about the number 3 sport in america behind nascar and football. I have respect for people who stick with their team through thick and thin. I belive you and your friend are wagoners in this case. The only reason you all came in here was to bash me and my team. I work with a guy who was die hard pats fan from boston. Now he has renounced his fandom because oif the cheating that was done. So go ahead pick this one apart too. You still got proven wrong. Your team is still a bunch of cheating s.o.b.s. See you game time this season.

P.S. No hard feelings. I am sure there are some things on which the 3 of us can agree football and fandom just is not it.

All I can respond to this post is with a :rolleyes: and a :guffaw::guffaw:

Man killing the Steelers this year is gonna be so much sweeter after knowing it will upset you guys.:techman:

I can't wait to hear Scout supposedly "loose" to you again, even though he has destroyed your argument even more every time he posts.

Yeah, that's die hard...

He defended that team and got his glote on in The house that Rooney built. I have respect for him after the abuse he took from the rest of us at work. The scandle is what ended it for him I don't think anything else would have. Another co-worker from england a Man U fan has called the steelers the american equivilant(sp) in fandom to Manchester. He is also a steeler fan.

I wont be able to stop laughing after we stomp that mudhole and walk it dry.
How big are those crows in philly? Do you even show your pats fandom there or are you scared?

Yeah, well, I don't know about that, but Manchester United sucks ass anyway.
Btw. the players of the club I'm a fan of could rape a class of elementary school girls and I'd still support the club (although not the players obviously). Some thing like what Belichik and his crew did would have absolutely no impact on my love to the club, and anyone who says otherwise wasn't a fan to begin with imo.
