Ugliest Red Shirt Death...

AlboOfBorg

Commander
Red Shirt
Ok so what was the ugliest Red Shirt death in all of Star Trek?

My personal choice was the Red Shirt Thompson in "By Any Other Name" in TOS, the one who was reduced to a cube of chemicals then crushed to death by Rojan of the Kelvan Empire.

There is always the exploding rock... it's a classic!
Although having every molecule in your body disrupted slowly had to be the worst Star Trek death of all... besides Lee Meriwether looked hot!

getting a spear in the back must have been pretty ugly. cant remember the name of the episode think it was Galileo seven it's the one when the shuttle craft crashed on the planet Spock in charge and the enterprise cant find him
oh yeah what about when that guy,Mendez i think his name was.in the ds9 episode 'the ship' was hit by a dominion blaster .His death was pretty prolonged. not sure if he counts as a red shirt mind.

I was always weirded out by the woman who sank halfway through the deck in the TNG episode "In Theory"...something about the off-screen shriek.

First thing I thought of when I read the thread title.

The salt vampire of M113 didn't take any redshirts, surprisingly, but the deaths of the crewmen it attacked were all pretty gruesome. Having your salt sucked out of your body? Nasty.

What made it even more gruesome was the fact that it was a woman that was killed. When I first saw that I couldn't believe they didn't "play it safer" by killing the black guy instead.

While not a redshirt, the absolute ugliest death in all of Star Trek history is the death of Xon in the transporter accident in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

The scream of a Vulcan. . . Oh my . . . god . . . the scream . . .

Xon wasn't in TMP. The Vulcan who died in the transporter accident was named Sonak.

EDIT: Too slow.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Lt. Cmdr. Dexter Remmick, yet. His death is, easily, the most graphic in all of Star Trek. He was probably just a shell at that point, though. Considering that creature had been living inside him for awhile, I would imagine his first death during the merging process was painful and gruesome.

Yes, and does anyone else think that Picard & Riker actually enjoyed doing that, considering what a jerk Remmick was when he visited the Enterprise? Maybe they "accidentally" bumped their phaser settings up a notch or three? :)

IMHO, the worst classic redshirt deaths were in The Devil in the Dark. The Horta burned them to a crisp with acid, for crying out loud! -- RR

While not a death, the crewman who got beamed up during the storm in Enterprise's Strange New World came back pretty horribly disfigured, what with leaves and sticks embedded throughout his body.
