Star Trek at 50 and the Shatman

We're only 8 years away from the 50th anniversay of Trek. What are the chances that Paramount will want something important to commerate it? And, what are the chances of Shatner being involved?

I have no problem with Shatner not being in Trek XI for story reasons, but what pressure would Paramount put on whoever is in charge of the franchise at that time to include Shatner? Obviously, this requires the guy still be with us. He just turned 77 and appears to be vital. Also, Trek XI's business would determine if there's a Trek XII and more.

A 50th Anniversary is a massive landmark by anyone's standards. Something big will happen, even if Star Trek 2009 tanks. Probably on TV, a celebration, maybe something dramatic. It's about the only time you can mingle multiple series casts and get away with it... because it's a birthday party.

I'd love to see a photoshoot (like they did when the last Star Wars film wrapped). Premiere or Variety? I don't recall which. A massive foldout with actors from across the franchise hanging out on a movie set... Shatner, Nimoy et all would be the centrepiece, encompassed by succeeding generations on each side.

Without being disrepectful, because I love the Original Crew, I have to wonder how many we will have lost by 2016. Frankly none of us can plan that far ahead with any certainty.

I remember that photo. It was pretty impressive. I would hope they would be able to pull something like that off. I would hope they do something. I just remember with TUC and the 25th anniversary the studio dragged it's feet trying to decide what story to use (Bennett's academy story or the one they ended up with) and I don't think they started filming in April of 91 for a December 91 release. I hope they put some planning into this.
