Port and Starboard Phaser Banks for the New Enterprise ?

No, I mean yes. I mean no. No. Yes. Maybe.

No.

No, yes. Definately yes.

Possibly.

This is a prequel.

There should be one giant slingshot on the back of the ship, duct-taped to the wings of the vectoring nacelles.

"I love port and starboard phaser banks. And so do you."

A little too much LDS there, methinks.

Actually, to answer the OP's question. I think the nuEnterprise () will be able to fire in port and starboard directions regardless of where they mount the phaser canons.

...After all, so could the olEnterprise (:devil:).

(Or at least the olConstellation could, in "Doomsday Machine".)

Port, starboard, and aft. Trek ships should move and turn slowly enough that you want your phaser arcs to cover most of the sky.

Why do I find it difficult to take seriously any thread in this forum on the topic of ship design today?

Hope so, though I don't know if they'll be used. On the original Connie I always imagined 6 banks with two ball turrets each - One forward on the ventral saucer, two port and starboard on the upper, two on the bottom of the secondary hull, and one aft just above the shuttle bay.

I'm more concerned about the photon torpedo tubes myself. If they stick them on the base of the neck, or even worse just below the bridge a la Franz Joseph, I'm going to hit something.
