Hypothetical plot for the miniseries: An unknown person or group develops a disease that kills off only Vulcans quickly and horrifically.
The USS Titan continues to be assigned to ambassadorial duties in the Romulan Empire. Suddenly, all of Capt. Riker's Vulcan crewmen die in an unexplained manner. He contacts Starfleet Medical and Capt. Beverly Crusher begins her research to find the cause and the cure. Genetically-engineered Dr. Bashir, on DS9, learns of the deaths and, having dealt with a similar situation (the Founders' Disease created by Section 31 years before) begins his own research. After a short while, he determines that the disease is far too complex to be from the present. He contacts Temporal Investigations and enlists the aid of an agent, 7of9.
Meanwhile, Captain Tuvok and the USS Voyager are sent to Vulcan to meet with the High Command to possibly determine who would want to eliminate their people.
On Romulus, Spock contracts the disease, which is killing him much more slowly due to his half-human make-up. He commandeers a warp ship and takes it to Earth where he meets up with Bev who can now better study the disease. Soon, 7of9 contacts Tuvok and between the two of them, they use flawless logic to figure out that the disease was created only as a ruse to cover some other plan.
Bashir and 7of9 travel to the Guardian of Forever to go forward in time to prevent the creation of the disease. Fifteen years into the future, they encounter an older Julian who has become as mad as the genetically engineered misfits that he lived with after being altered. Time was not a friend to him; the enhancements reversed, breaking him down physically and psychologically, causing him to become sociopathic and dilusional. He blames the Vulcan scientist who altered him as a child and is determined to destroy his life just as Julian's was destroyed.
Wesley Crusher travels there by his own means, despite being in direct violation of the Code of the Travelers. He sacrifices his existence to prevent the disease from being sent back. 7of9 and Bashir return to the restored present and life goes on seemingly. Soon, they discover that Wes was unable to completely correct the timeline when it is anounced on FNN (Federation News Network) that Spock has died of an unknown cause.
They return to Earth and Bashir's misfit friends track him down and tell him that Temporal Investigations has been formed an unholy alliance with Section 31 to prevent reunification of the Vulcans and the Romulans, which the former organization has determined will cause the fall of the Federation within 10 years; S/31 was quick to partner with T/I to save its beloved benefactor. And, the Misfits confirm that S/31 and T/I are correct in their prediction. What should Bashir and 7of9 do? Who can they trust?
In this admittedly amateurish tale, there is little direct interaction between several groups. Yet, the several groups and individuals that would have scenes in such a miniseries that are directly related and that would push the story along.
