The best Titanic film?

I like both A Night to Remember and Titanic(1997). Despite the love story, Cameron's is probably the most accurate depiction of the sinking and the most accurate depiction of the ship. Two scenes always give me a tear. The first is in the 'Nearer to my God thee' scene where the water is shown coming through the corridor and walls with such force. That small but powerful, and compared to any other, scene really hits home to me the destruction of the ship. The second scene is the final scene where the camera flies through the sea, through the wreck and 'back in time' to all the deceased on the grand staircase. When Cameron does it right, he really does it right!

What kind of suck-ass purgatory was that anyway? Everyone who died a tragic death on the ship gets to spend eternity on it? Fuck that noise.

It's never specifically said if she's dead or not though. It could be a dream.

True, and I've always been of the camp that she's dreaming at the end, afterall, the movie's love theme does include the lyrics "every night I dream of you; and it makes zero sense that she'd die and in her afterlife she's a)sent back to Titanic b)young and c)not with her husband.

True, and I've always been of the camp that she's dreaming at the end, afterall, the movie's love theme does include the lyrics "every night I dream of you; and it makes zero sense that she'd die and in her afterlife she's a)sent back to Titanic b)young and c)not with her husband.

Although JC did originally object to the song... He wouldn't share on the DVD commentary what he meant by that scene although he does know himself. I like both ideas of a dream or her death.

I personally believe the "she died" theory.

As for some of the objections:

1) If ever there was a place that met the "qualifications" for producing a haunting, it would be the wreck of the Titanic. Even if you don't buy that, then perhaps the ship was her "portal" to the world beyond, and she was met by the spirits of all those who had passed before to be escorted to the next life. (It's not uncommon for dying people and those surviving near-death experiences to report meeting close friends or loved ones who have already passed.)

2) Rose may well have loved her second husband. I tend to think of him as her second, because I beleive she and Jack were "married in the heart". It's clear that Jack was her one great love, her soulmate, if you will. He'd be the one she'd spend eternity with.

I think those three were at the theatre when I saw it.

Better those guys than the crying women in the completely packed theater. The moment the lights went up, tissues were all over the floor. I still remember people cheering when rose spit on Calvin.

The portrayal of Calvin and his aristocratic ways felt really cliche. It reminded me of "Far and Away" with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

There was also the stench of early and preteen girls perfume.

God I hate how music and TV have been jumping all over that demographic. Tasteless little girls shouldn't have that much power over the media.

That's bullshit. Mr. Calvert would be sitting in heaven going, "What the fuck?! You were married to me fo 50 years and we had two kids together and some punk you knew for a couple days 90 years ago is who you want to spend eternity with?! Well fuck you too, Rose!"
