Evidence of SNW being a possible alternate timeline from TOS

Kate Mulgrew and Jeri Ryan both seem higher end C-list to lower end B-list?

Both have worked solidly in the quarter of century since Voyager concluded (and just like Tom Cruise, Jeri Ryan still looks much younger than her real years).

From Wikipedia:

In popular usage outside the film industry, an A-list celebrity is any person with an admired or desirable social status. Even socialites with popular press coverage and elite associations have been termed as A-list celebrities. Similarly, less popular persons and current teen idols are referred to as B-list celebrities – and the ones with lesser fame as C-list ones. In 2000, Entertainment Weekly interpreted a C-list celebrity as "that guy, or sometimes that girl, the easy-to-remember but hard-to-name character actor".

Ask anyone on the street who is not a Star Trek fan (but has the potential to see a Star Trek film if it caters to the general public), in the 18 to 35 year demographic (which is what film producers cater to) who Jeri Ryan or Kate Mulgrew is, and I'd bet they would have never heard of those names.

Ill name a few . Spock and Kirk both had relationships with La'An. By Space Seed they need to research Khan. They dont seem to know who Khan is even though they worked with his desendant who worried constantly about becoming like Khan . La'An never even comes up in space seed.

Spock says in Dagger of the Mind hes never mind melded with a human and that it could be dangerous. In SNW he had a long meld with Kirk just a couple years before.

The biggest one. Khan was born much later due to romulan temporal interference. This was obviously what created the SNW timeline.
You could pull more from the laundry list that trek yards has compiled.

Outside that, I find the canon argument odd. So long as paramount authorize it, its all canon, though it might not be part of the same universe.

I don't think Jeri Ryan and Kate Mulgrew are true unknowns, but it's more like US pop culture has comprehensibly fragmented itself gradually in the past 5-10-15 years, with no mega popular TV show on terrestrial to talk about around the water cooler anymore in the era of Netflix, YouTube, and TikTok (and besides which many if not most Gen-Zers and younger Millennials under age 45 are flat out broke now).

Are you that harsh against TAS as well? It also has numerous issues that need reconciliation with the rest of Trek. (Kzinti wars, force field belts, galactic travel times, giant Spock clones never mentioned again, USS Bonaventure and Sarah April allegedly on the first ship with warp drive, etc.)

Its a cartoon. I haven't seen all.the eps yet.

They might know Kate Mulgrew because of Orange is the New Black. Then again, that was a decade ago, so maybe not.

Reminds me of all the arguments of the Xindi conflict being a source of contention among fandom all because… nobody bothered to mention it in previous Trek. As if to suggest that merely not speaking of it at all must mean it never happened.

I don’t think I’ve ever discussed the Mexican-American war with anyone for the past 20 years. I guess that means me mentioning it at all must mean it’s been retconned into our history! OH NO CONTINUITY ERROR!!!
Trying to retcon actual history is something that does happen, lol.

All this arguing about age reminds me of one thing: I wish they had cast a younger actor as Archer. Bakula might have been ok in the early 90s, but he always struck me as too old pushing 50. Should have had someone like Nathan Fillion or close to that age or at least with that youthful swagger. Bakula in 2001 seemed more suited as a high school history teacher boring all his students to sleep.
Anson mount is in his 50s.

Enterprise was supposed to be a rejuvenation of Trek TV at the time it came out, and bringing in someone who was already a TV star from a decade ago didn’t seem like it reflected that attempt to freshen things up. It needed a new face. That’s why I suggested someone like Nathan Fillion who has that kind of youthful energy that I think Trek needed in 2001, and I can EASILY imagine him actually gelling with most of the established cast in a way that might have played more naturally.

Anson Mount, on the other hand, was one of the popular points of DISCO’s S2 that there was a lot of enthusiasm for him to get his own show. Mount’s work was already cut out for him. It wouldn’t have made sense to recast him for a younger guy. He is supposed to be a captain that has had many years under his belt by the time SNW started.

Enterprise had a lot of problems but Scott Bakula wasn't one of them. I never got the hype about Nathan Fillion anyway. Plus if there's even a shred of truth in the rumors he wasn't the nicest to Stana Katic on Castle, then this supposed "gelling" with the cast of Enterprise if he were in the show is based on no evidence and potential evidence against.

Thing is, I think they were going for "scientist's son who became a test pilot but has no real deep space experience," so Bakula's greenness and naivete work, at least partially. The Earth Starfleet pretty much admits during the NX-01's launch ceremony that Henry Archer's son is the only real choice for the new ship's captain, so nepotism and gladhanding seem to be a thing in Starfleet even before the Federation.
