Watched The Shape of Water.

This is a really good film. I recommend.

Downton Abbey -- season 4.

12 Monkeys -- season 2.

24 -- rewatching season 5. I forgot how good this show is despite everyone having issues.

While agreeing with the points about Elon Musk, if someone is going to be called an inventor in the 21st century, the title should go to Steve Jobs and the people who worked at Apple during the Steve Jobs era. (considering the invention of the smartphone and tablet,) the person or people behind the first truly productive AI should deserve the title as well.

If you're going to call an Apple person an inventor you should call Steve Wozniack, the guy who did all the work. And while AI is an impressive invention, it's not the CEOs of the AI companies who invented it, it's some brilliant person on their payroll. And modern advances AI aren't even a recent invention. The theory and models were come up with decades ago and the only advancement is that we now have the computer power to make it work well.

Like books, I'm tending to watch older stuff these days. Something about new stuff isn't resonating as well with me. I guess, I've hit the age, where the new media isn't for me anymore.

New Tricks

Finished Acolyte last night. It was not a good show, but i still don't think it ruined Star Wars.

I don't think any show can "Ruin" Star Wars. Even if it was the worst thing ever, you can ignore it and it doesn't affect anything else Star Wars.

I got like six episodes into Acolyte. It wasn't a total trainwreck, but it was a bummer. They focused entirely on the corruption of the Jedi. But they didn't successfully sell that anything those particular Jedi did was actually evil just because they made well intentioned mistakes, and didn't have anything cool enough to make it work. So the series was just darkness and stress without payoff.

I like a lot of really depressing movies, but there's a general rule. The darker the movie is, the more artistic merit it has to have for it to work. A happy movie has a lot lower an artistic bar than a sad movie. This is a sad movie with 4/10 artistic quality.

Holy crap, that was boring and badly written.
