Spoilers La'An - what's going to happen?

  • Thread starter Discovery McDiscoveryFace
  • Start date
Here's a crazy idea --- is it possible there will be an episode where La'an will be "erased" from history...so that way Kirk and and company will forget about her connection wiht Khan -- and how she perceived him...so that they don't understand the threat he poses in TOS?

I never liked this part of her....she could have easily been something else

I pose this idea, as an alternative to death....we don't know her fate when TOS starts....so maybe this, instead of a cliched red shirt death?

How would you erase La'an from history without completely undoing all of SNW? Una and M'Benga knew her before she came on board the Enterprise so she has a long established history.

Unless somehow temporal agent shenanigans are woven in but I can't see why they would need to erase the memories of someone's existence in order to recruit them.

Or the Loom gets her.

La'an is Spocks XO in Star Trek II, but because of their relationship being an HR nightmare, she is kept off screen.

She find herself in a strange parallel universe, centuries in the past where she helps produce a film about her ancestor.

Why do you choose to assume her "fate" is at issue?

Maybe she gets another job.
By fate I meant outcome in the more general sense not necessarily some kind of mortal or dramatic thing. Her transferring to another ship is still her fate in that regard.

Hell, Christine Chapel disappears from the canonical narrative after Star Trek IV. She's on Earth during the Whale Crisis and the last we see of her in canon is her sitting next to Janice Rand at Kirk and company's disciplinary hearing. I'm not too worried about La'an.

I've appreciated the replies to this thread. I've had all sorts of thoughts but I keep coming back to the fact that the character needs to die - she cheated death before but had survivor guilt, she was never comfortable in her own skin, never forged enduring bonds and on the whole is not gregarious. So this means the writers will either -

- Kill her off
- Not kill her off, having baited us and done it cleverly
- Not kill her off, having baited us but make it a contrived / predictable / obvious hash
- Do some sort of Batel / Juratti sort of move on her.

I hope for the second one, but I expect disappointment.

Okay, somebody explain to me how Spock, Kirk, et al never ONCE said - "oh, hey, they share the same name! What gives?" TBH, this was a stupid stunt. Let's face it -- one of many the MIC have committed. She could have easily had SOME OTHER NAME.

True but it does seem like they are building to something. Her augment crisis storyline, her work as a temporal agent, her position as XO in the alternate timeline. It feels like they're planting deliberate seeds about her future outcome and that there'll be more than just "and she left the Enterprise"

More than say Ortegas who currently doesnt have much of an end point mapped out and you can just say she flies this other ship now

Human ego is a fragile thing.
