The first two Kelvin-verse movies are my two least favorite movies in the entire franchise.
They worked to a degree. The mishandling of them and poor timing of sequels ensured that the casuals moved on and that the canon complaints would become more prominent in the debate. It wasn't overwhelming, but they couldn't completely get away from the canon complaints either. But the Kelvinverse movies did work. The first two made money and all of them are pretty good. While some complained about the look, especially the lens flares, I don't think their was a overwhelming complaint about canon and continuity except from those few who didn't understand it was a new universe and not the Prime Universe that was altered.

Agreed. It's got a great arc, it ties back to the first film very well, Kirk and Spock go through interesting challenges and it has social commentary."Into Darrkness" has only one lame moment. Spock doing the 'KAHN!!!!!!!" callback. Otherwise it's a fine and fun action movie.
Well, they are, by far, my two favourite films in the franchise (it’s not even close). Not that I’m trying to change your mind, but rather to illustrate how difficult it is to satisfy all the fans. The first two Kelvin-verse movies are my two least favorite movies in the entire franchise.
2009 in particular fares the worst to me. They never quite overcome the script problems they had to improvise fixes on during the Writer's Strike. The first two Kelvin-verse movies are my two least favorite movies in the entire franchise.
Agreed. And then "into darkness" played the "remember this" game a little too hard the way Picard season 3 eventually would. I liked "Beyond"...2009 in particular fares the worst to me. They never quite overcome the script problems they had to improvise fixes on during the Writer's Strike.

You seem to have typed an extraneous “4” in that sentence.I still rank Into Darkness at 14th on the list of Star Trek films.
Paramount already tried that with the Kelvin movies.
They didn’t make that much money. They did well in the context of Trek but the studio expectations were higher than what was achieved. I’m a big fan of those films, especially the first two, and would love to have more with that cast but it’s not terribly realistic anymore.even thought the kelvin verse movies made a buttload of cash
i still wonder why paramount never made more kelvin verse movies

Indeed, yes. 09 is probably my top Trek film for just rewatch value alone.Well, they are, by far, my two favourite films in the franchise (it’s not even close). Not that I’m trying to change your mind, but rather to illustrate how difficult it is to satisfy all the fans.
History is replete with examples of fun and dumb selling big.I loved the movie when it first came out. Upon a recent rewatch, I found the plot to be quite silly and the plot holes to be numerous. It’s actually a pretty dumb film. But then, so was Phantom Menace, and they both did well at the box office.
