I do not. VHS still working.
Unless your VCR craps out, this will probably not interest you. But if it does, I recommend going for one of the cheaper releases of the series.

I'm looking for it to get cheaper. My VCR is holding out but it's hardly something I have 7 copies.Unless your VCR craps out, this will probably not interest you. But if it does, I recommend going for one of the cheaper releases of the series.

...or publish a 4K version with only the original FX. Since I have every episode of TOS on Blu-ray, DVD and laserdisc, there's no other version, sound edit or framing I need so much that I would make another investment, and certainly not this 60th anniversary version, which appears to be little more than repackaging with a pointless vinyl record and cards.Who don't have 7 of these already
Or at least people who hoped they'd do a little work on the little glitches and stuff. But there ya go
Nothing official but even older repackaging simply mentioned "all 79 episodes with enhanced effects." Paramount's history with the series shows that they're not about to make any changes to the existing prints. They'll most likely going to just toss them all as is, promos for the 2009 movie and all, onto new discs.Have there been any updates regarding whether this new release has both versions or just the remastered versions?
Frankly, I'd be happier if they had just the remastered versions.Nothing official but even older repackaging simply mentioned "all 79 episodes with enhanced effects." I've never experienced the bugs you're talking about. I think they occur only if you're using a particular gaming console as your Blu-ray player. And then only if you're watching the original fx, which you don't seem to prefer anyway. (I like both).Frankly, I'd be happier if they had just the remastered versions.
I've heard from people that the seamless branching sometimes doesn't work properly and you can sometimes see the remastered title sequence when watching the original versions.
I've also heard that every time there's a scene with remastered effects, you get an icon in the corner of your screen reminding you that you can switch effects and you can't get rid of it.
I don't know if it's true because I never bought TOS on Blu-ray for this reason.
If it's just a re-release/reprinting of the Blu-Ray set from 2009 - if your Blu-Ray player supports it, you can select to watch with the original effects (it uses some sort of Branching tech.)Have there been any updates regarding whether this new release has both versions or just the remastered versions?

The same remastering process cleaned up the original effects. They look as good as they can without access to the long gone original elements, which means you still see the sloppy mattes, noticable graining from too many optical overlays, etc. that were present initially. I personally think they look better than the low budget mid-2000s CGI, but your mileage may vary.I never bothered with trying it as I also owned the 2004 DVD set; and I'd heard the original effects looked terrible in Hi Def.![]()
Are you saying there is no icon or are you saying it is possible to turn it off?I've never experienced the bugs you're talking about. Yep one of those people would be me. "Balance of Terror" has the wrong opening credit music for example.Frankly, I'd be happier if they had just the remastered versions.

Whether an alternate angle icon displays or not (or can be disabled) depends on your specific make and model of player. It is not a problem endemic to the disc itself. Research your specific model of player. Are you saying there is no icon or are you saying it is possible to turn it off?

That depends on the player. My LG will show the Icon and I can't remove it. My Sony does not.
Thanks. I have a Sony Blu-ray player, but an LG TV.Whether an alternate angle icon displays or not (or can be disabled) depends on your specific make and model of player. It is not a problem endemic to the disc itself. Research your specific model of player.
For me, the alternate angle icon was a problem with a specific DVD player I used to have, and only experienced the phenomenon on Doctor Who DVDs with alternate effects. Since that time many years ago, I have updated to a cheapish Sony blu-ray player and have not seen such an icon on either those Doctor Who DVDs, the current Blu-rays, or the Star Trek blu-rays.
Again, depending on your player, YMMV.
I agree. Those were hands down the best looking sets. The only problem was they didnt fit as neatly on the shelf and was far less convienant to open than a typical slip case. I ended up giving them to my father. The best looking Star Trek set packaging are TAS on DVD followed by the TOS season sets on DVD. Unfortunately they are also bulky as Mudd so I don't have them anymore.
My questions would be,The next logical step would be to release 4K versions of TOS. It is too bad they did not do it for the 60th anniversary, instead, just re-releasing the same resolution we have had since 2009, 17 years ago is absurd! Who is running their marketing department????
