DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

IMO, I think Dave Bautista and John Cena have shown far better acting chops than The Rock.
Bautista especially. He really has stepped up his performances since GOTG.
I never followed wrestling. But both of these guys have really impressed me. In the past I might have been a little skeptical of even seeing them in anything. But I am way past that. They are the real deal.

But the Rock...

Total opposite. I think I saw the first movie he did as lead. Can not even remember it’s name. Not deliberate choice to avoid his films at first. Most of what he does I have no interest in. I actually kind of liked Black Adam. But it would have been a lot better with someone else in that role. I really hated how he used his position to kept that character out of any Shazam movies. Also the way he tried to exploit Henry Cavill’s pointless cameo for his own interests. Glad that all blew up in his face. Very little I have heard of his off camera life has impressed me either...
I would be very happy if he has nothing to do with DC characters in the future.

I should have thought of Cena; he exemplifies the trend for sure. Bautista as well.

So, you're saying that Dwayne Johnson was a professional athlete before he became an actor?

I did not know that.

lol yup dwayne johnson was a full time pro wrestler in the 90s and 2000s before became a full time actor in the 2010s

At this point I am not sure if surprise Dwayne Johnson was the wrestler The Rock is genuine or not? It’s not impossible that was decades ago. Though I never followed wrestling it was hard at the time to be completely unaware. My younger brother never seriously watched it either but I remember him saying The Rock was good performer . I am almost positive that did not continue to watching his movies. As an adult my brother is even less likely to watch the type of movies Johnston does than me.

Was he already THAT big back then? I don't follow wresting, so that's a serious question.
I don't follow wrestling either, but I believe in the late '90s or early '00s he was one of the WWE/F's most popular wrestling.
lol no but you do remember what his on screen pro wrestling gimmick was like when he was still in wwe
I can't stand wrestling. And I was just confused by why he would do his wrestling gimmick off camera when he hasn't been a wrestler in probably at least a decade, and even when he was wrestling, I doubt he ever did it when he wasn't wrestling.

The Rock is good at a very specific type of role (macho action hero tinged with self deprecating comedy).

Bautista is just good in general.

I kind of hate Cena, but that's maybe a compliment to him as an actor as I've never seen him in a role where I wasn't supposed to hate him.

Holy fucking way to misread something.
The Snyder Clark/Superman seemed miserable because he was not able to help as many people as he wanted to. He was aware that, AS powerful as he is he can't help everyone all at once.

THAT is at the core of the Snyder-verse Superman. I am stunned none of you ever realized that.... It is fucking right there!

Are you that surprised that a (thankfully small) number of people continue to misread the film? That's what you should expect from those who walked into a theater and...

1. Set themselves up with false expectations that Superman needed to be some fixed tribute to the Golden/Silver Age Weisinger version (and the Salkind's for that matter), which had been tossed over five decades ago.

2. Somehow missed DC's deliberate changes in Superman's attitude (along with a host of other superheroes) toward the end of the Silver Age.

Still, it speaks volumes that certain people are so triggered by Snyder's Superman that they cannot let it go, are still crying about it more than a decade later and after getting their Gunn version. Perhaps they are still pulling their hair out over the fact Gunn's film--with higher ticket prices--still could not match or earn more than Man of Steel, which also speaks volumes.

Don't get me wrong, I love both MoS and Gunn's Superman equally. They are different takes on the character, but neither are wrong. Just, different.

I am thrilled by this! Been wanting to see this since I was a little kid. So glad they are not going the Iron Man route. An essential part of Lex’s battle suit is seeing his full head and face. His ego is too big to hide it’s him. Also it greatly hides an actor’s performance. I get why recent tv shows efforts went with face concealing helmets and masks - budget. But part of that was copying Marvel even if it did not fit certain characters.

That suit is awesome!
Gunn followed up that post by saying everything in the shot is practical, that the suit is “unbelievably mobile,” and that Hoult “can move incredibly well” in it.
Apprently they've come up with stuff that looks big and bulky like that, but is still light and flexible enough for the actors move around a lot. I had assumed the big armor suits in Fallout where CGI, because I had thought there was no way people could move the way they do in practical suits, so I was shocked when I watched some of the behind the scene stuff from Season 2 and saw the suits were almost all practical.

So that alien in the far back is a background alien from Star Wars, specifically The Last Jedi in a deleted scene.

I feel like LucasFilm is probably going to take issue with that.
ILM is working on Supergirl, so it's probably a similar easter egg as Artoo in Star Trek '09, or the Millennium Falcon in First Contact.
