DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

IMO, I think Dave Bautista and John Cena have shown far better acting chops than The Rock.
Bautista especially. He really has stepped up his performances since GOTG.
I never followed wrestling. But both of these guys have really impressed me. In the past I might have been a little skeptical of even seeing them in anything. But I am way past that. They are the real deal.

But the Rock...

Total opposite. I think I saw the first movie he did as lead. Can not even remember it’s name. Not deliberate choice to avoid his films at first. Most of what he does I have no interest in. I actually kind of liked Black Adam. But it would have been a lot better with someone else in that role. I really hated how he used his position to kept that character out of any Shazam movies. Also the way he tried to exploit Henry Cavill’s pointless cameo for his own interests. Glad that all blew up in his face. Very little I have heard of his off camera life has impressed me either...
I would be very happy if he has nothing to do with DC characters in the future.

I should have thought of Cena; he exemplifies the trend for sure. Bautista as well.

So, you're saying that Dwayne Johnson was a professional athlete before he became an actor?

I did not know that.

lol yup dwayne johnson was a full time pro wrestler in the 90s and 2000s before became a full time actor in the 2010s

At this point I am not sure if surprise Dwayne Johnson was the wrestler The Rock is genuine or not? It’s not impossible that was decades ago. Though I never followed wrestling it was hard at the time to be completely unaware. My younger brother never seriously watched it either but I remember him saying The Rock was good performer . I am almost positive that did not continue to watching his movies. As an adult my brother is even less likely to watch the type of movies Johnston does than me.

Was he already THAT big back then? I don't follow wresting, so that's a serious question.
I don't follow wrestling either, but I believe in the late '90s or early '00s he was one of the WWE/F's most popular wrestling.
lol no but you do remember what his on screen pro wrestling gimmick was like when he was still in wwe
I can't stand wrestling. And I was just confused by why he would do his wrestling gimmick off camera when he hasn't been a wrestler in probably at least a decade, and even when he was wrestling, I doubt he ever did it when he wasn't wrestling.

The Rock is good at a very specific type of role (macho action hero tinged with self deprecating comedy).

Bautista is just good in general.

I kind of hate Cena, but that's maybe a compliment to him as an actor as I've never seen him in a role where I wasn't supposed to hate him.
