Do people under 40 care about Star Trek?

despite my issues with newer Trek, and aware of how more fragmented the pop culture landscape and viewers is now compared to Trek's prime, or even when I became a Trekkie, I don't think one can write off Trek's potential appeal to younger audiences. A smaller audience is still an audience

Going by what I see on YouTube, a lot of younger folk are doing Star Trek reactions. Gallifrey gals, warp reactor, Sesskasays (on her patreon), Jen Murray, Popcorn in Bed...
Regarding Popcorn in Bed.... Cassie has reacted to quite a diversity of material, most of which is not science fiction. However, not only did she stick with Trek, but she appeared wearing a Star Trek costume!

BunnytailsREACTS. Another young person on YouTube, reacting to shows. She described herself as a "Star Wars girl." Again, someone who not only stuck with Trek, but also appeared wearing a Trek costume.

That’s a good question. I do know this, a lot of younger people today won’t watch older material. They don’t watch old films or TV. They won’t even listen to older music unless a particular song happens to blow up on social media. i was never like that as a kid; I would watch older material and happily watched TOS even though it looked very dated by the 90’s. Based on what I’ve seen and hear from others, I think that would be rare now. It’s very much about what is current and what is viral.
There are a few young people who react to old music videos on YouTube. These young people may enjoy the old songs. But.... Aging rock stars may continue to perform their old songs, but the young people aren't watching those videos. They are watching decades old videos, made when these (now) aging rock stars were in young adulthood.

Diane Jennings comments on that at about 5:35.

I’m 927 (at least that’s what my kids say on occasion 😁) and I’ll give just about any Trek a try—couldn’t possibly care less if it’s a reboot or not. While I may not stick with it to the end or revisit it as often as my favourites, its status as a reboot or continuation is, to me, irrelevant. I just want to be entertained.

And led the way for many. That they get derided is still crazy to me because it's a beautiful update to the TOS style adventure.
Eh. They just never landed with me. I do appreciate them for what they are and the fact that they helped keep the franchise alive in an era when there was no new Star Trek being produced for television, but they just seemed to be more about style and flash over substance to me.

Different strokes and all that for many, but the theme of fatherhood resonated hard with me
