Oh OK, it just seems a little strange to me that out of all of the tie-ins these would be the ones that are declared canon. I'm wondering if maybe whoever wrote that doesn't really understand canon and is saying that just because they're officially licensed.

Here's another article with some character images.

Ah, we're back to rocket blasts coming out of the back of nacelles again. :D

Also, maybe it's because I don't read manga, but I find it really weird to have big STEP STEP sound effects just for a character walking.

Webtoon as a company is a huge red flag for me. Their platform is “coin” based, so folks have to pay for every chapter instead of using a subscription. They treat creators in Korea terribly to the point at least one has died from overwork. The fact this press release doesn’t list specific artists working on either series leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

the coin thing is one of the options that publishers have, there's also free releases and advanced release payments where you get the "current" chapter for free, but can pay to read ahead.

It won’t be the first time a Trek comics licensee claimed its work was canon. Pretty sure I remember that happening around when First Contact came out, with a publisher (was it Marvel?) talking about the Enterprise-E’s previously-unrevealed stealth mode. Didn’t matter then either.

Korean and Japanese publishers that use the coin system domestically seem to rarely change that for their English-language partners. Shueisha is one of the few I'm aware of that does that with MangaPlus and Viz.

I'm (generally) looking forward to trying both of these out! It will be great to see another new story in the DS9 setting. And, to be honest, I have a bit of a thing for the "character has amnesia and has to piece their life back together" trope, so I'm quite looking forward to Recollections. (Although I really hope that "reveal" is something that comes out in the very first chapter, and they didn't just spoil a mid-series reveal in the press release, for some reason!)

The one thing that I'm not entirely thrilled about is that they're locked into a specific app. I know it's kind of the way of the world now, but it's still not great. And to be honest, what Firebird has mentioned about this specific app is very concerning. :(

I'm not a fan of spin-offs that don't have even a single established character.

I'm kind of the opposite. I love getting stories that aren't related to characters from a specific TV show. Star Trek is a setting, and I really enjoy getting looks into other parts of the universe.

Comics are throwing around the c-word again...

I really wish they would stop doing that. Your comic isn't canon, it's never going to be canon. Stop trying to make fetch happen.

More recently, the creators said the same thing about the "Sisko commanding the Theseus" ongoing comic. Not that any of us believed it anyway, but I guess we saw how long that claim lasted.

It seems like they use "canon" to mean "consistent with canon," overlooking that that's required of every tie-in. (Inconsistencies only happen when later canon ignores and contradicts the tie-ins.)

Best Cover Artist
...Francesco Francavilla, Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars: Tales from the Nightlands (Dark Horse); Absolute Batman, Absolute Martian Manhunter, Batman: Full Moon, Nightwing variants (DC); Green Hornet/Miss Fury (Dynamite); Star Trek: The Last Starship, Twilight Zone (IDW); Dick Tracy (Mad Cave)

That sounds great, I usually get my Trek comics from Hoopla but they don't get individual issues, so I might have to splurge and actually buy this one.

Every time I see that David Gerrold is working on a new project, I'm reminded that fans have been waiting for the next Chtorr novel since 1992.

OK, don't get mad at me, comic fans, but I had to look up who Brian Michael Bendis is, to see why the article seemed so excited about his involvement. Apparently he is really big in the world of superhero comics.

The collection sounds great, and I'm looking forward to it! It'll be nice to have Ryan North back, although I'm kind of disappointed he won't be penning a LD tale. (Obviously, the fact that Mike McMahan himself is providing an LD story is wonderful; I'm just saying, there could have been two LD stories! :D )

Now I have to start thinking about which cover I'm going to get... :)
