The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

Okay, I was just watching a recent toy hunting video from Ed's Retro Geek-Out from the Great Ohio Toy Show. For a moment the camera is focused on a carded Remco Warlord, and I immediately start pondering, what would that figure demand on card? There really hasn't been any other DC toylines that have done the fantasy characters they licenced to Remco back in the day. Probably makes sense, there's so many more in-demand DC characters they'd do for Multiverse or Super Powers, hell, they couldn't even do any other female characters aside from Wonder Woman in McFarlane's Super Powers, not even Catwoman, Supergirl or Batgirl. Warlord, Arak, and the other characters from that old Remco line probably would need to go outside of DC toylines and appeal to the MotU fans like the original Remco line did.

And then it hits me. Mattel is getting the DC licence. Mattel has incorporated the Sun-Man characters into their MotU Origins line a few years ago. And Mattel has loved to cross MotU over with other toylines and franchises before they put that on pause to concentrate on the movie toys.
What if Mattel did a crossover between MotU and those DC fantasy characters? What if they did Origins-style figures of Warlord & Co?

Oh. My. God.

This is big. Winona Ryder has been really cautious with her likeness rights, almost to the degree of Tom Cruise.
The last officially licenced figure of a Winona Ryder character with recognizable likeness (so, no, obviously Funko Pops don't count) was Call from the Alien: Resurrection line from Kenner way back in 1997. Even when NECA did the tributes to that line, they left out Call, all the Stranger Things lines left out Joyce Byers, etc. And up till now, the recent Beetlejuice lines never included Lydia. There have been figures of Astrid, Jenna Ortega's character, but not Lydia.
I don't know what made Ryder reconsider her stance, but I do hope it is not limited to this one figure, as It is a $300 figure. Don't get me wrong, if this is it, I will in all likelyhood pay up, but I'd feel better not having to save up for a figure and being able to buy a NECA or McFarlane version.

Speaking of likeness rights and toy companies having to be creative, the new Mcfarlane Joker based on Jack Nicholson had to use the loophole of using the Nicholson Joker from an official comic adaptation with some creative tweaking that incorporated elements from a 1990s Kenner toy of the Joker in order to get it made. It's Jack....but it's not. But with Nicholson demanding such a high price for his likeness rights or not even giving them out it was the closest fans and collectors will get to a Jack Joker for the time being.

Got the Kenner-style Retro figures from The Acolyte today. Ross stores are selling what was originally a $65 box set for just $19.99.

Ross doing god's work, one shelf warming wave at a time. Or, something like that. It's just interesting seeing how the toy ecosystem deals with itself.

I really have to keep myself from getting a random Masters of the Universe figure when I get lost at a Walmart.

One idea might be to take popular prints, and sculpt additions. For example....say one offering has a Refit saucer split down the middle.

An artist could have a plug...similar to those used to widen tables.

Next thing you know, you have a Breton/Devon from FASA.

Sad news, as former Mattel lead toy designer and co-creator of Masters of the Universe Roger Sweet passed away on April 28 at the age of 91.

Just earlier this year, his wife had started a GoFundMe to help pay for his memory care, as he was suffering from dementia.
The timing makes it especially sad. He was incredibly proud of MotU, and He-Man in particular.

Here is a recording of a panel in his honor at 2019's PowerCon:

Found this cheap. It was put in the wrong place in the store and they had to honor the shelf sticker which said a percentage off.. I originally misquoted it as 80% but I think it was lower

So got Leia for $19.95

Wait, so the regular price was $99.75?! Is that normal? I don't buy figures, so I have no idea of the going rate... but that seems really high.

(And yes, I get that you're probably talking Australian dollars, but the Canadian and Australian dollars are almost at parity.)

I misread the sticker . Not 80% but less the actual price was supposed to be like $50 so I read that wrong
