I'm definitely skipping the bonus interviews disc. There's already two and half hours worth of extras on the main disc, that's plenty for me. (And I'm betting much of it will be 'watch it only once' type stuff anyway.)
But same. This is the weakest 455 Films release I've seen so far.
HOWEVER (trying to balance out my negativity) it's good that we're still inching towards the finish line. I don't consider this completed until I get my disc and rewatch the documentary again to form a final final opinion.

I'm not particularly excited about it either, but I figure I owe them one more watch before I decide if I hate it or not.
Plus, until I rewatch it I can delude myself into thinking that just maybe they've made tweaks to it since the streamed version.
They've replaced Wang in Space with Philips in Space. YMMV.
I may be entirely misremembering, but I could swear that back in the day I heard that the DS9 cast was more 'professional' on set than the TNG or VOY folks...that they didn't really connect on a personal level as much as the other casts, and were there more to "do the job". And yet, to go by these two documentaries, I feel like there was a lot more warmth and camraderie and fun on WWLB.

I'd take it. But I'd prefer that screen time just get used on stuff that actually had anything to do with the show itself.
I feel as though the only difference for me if the Wang in Space segment wasn't included would be that I'd feel like the documentary was rather short.

That's squarely on them though, they didn't have to use that time for Wang's big adventure...they have multiple hours of interview material they're putting on the discs so they could easily have used some of that.
It's hard not to think that this was their attempt at 'something different' a la the DS9 writer's room reunion. Except, y'know...crappy.
At the end of the day, the biggest problem with To the Journey is that it lacked a central force to guide the doc and give it some distinct voice.
What We Left Behind had Ira Behr championing it the whole way, and the doc is focused, sharp, and is much more than just a series of talking heads.

To help persuade us to part with the additional $25 they're showing us a ten minute bonus material preview. Looks more interesting than the doc itself. This is the kind of behind the scenes info I wanted to know more about and why I backed the doc.
Yeah, not really sure why there wasn't place for this in the doc. Maybe we didn't need quite so much of Garrett Wang in the vomit comet?
Dave Zappone is being quite chippy in the YouTube comments. I think backers are quite naturally annoyed that our contributions seemingly paid for the interviews, but now we're being shaken down for more money to see them.
If that's not the case, it's very unclear how the funds were apportioned.
All things considered, it's been a pretty poorly-run crowdfunder - lack of transparency, massively overrunning, under-delivering (no HD footage) and shocking communication.
