Spoilers Daredevil: Born Again discussion thread

Now, didn't technically FIsk kill his wife? He was deflecting the object meant to kill him, but in his fury, didn't see how the impact would have killed his wife.

I thought Bullseye was thrown off his game by Matt, so that was why Fisk had a chance to defend himself.

I don't exactly have a handle why Matt would want to to protect Bullseye?
A one time thank you for saving his life a couple episodes earlier?

Bullseye was off by doing a stupid thing and going head on against an entire hall full of agents shortly after Daredevil beat the shit out of him, that was simply a dumb move. If he wanted to be efficient he could hve "just" sniped him from a distance like he did with those AVTF agents when he saved Matt earler.

The reason why Daredevil/Matt helps Bullseye get away is his faith and moral code. Matt doesn't believe in killing like Frank does, he'll go out of his way to save someone even at great personal cost. He will beat the shit out of villains, close to death once he enters his rage but he wont kill because "Thou shall not kill".

Exactly. It's the same reason he's stopped Bullseye from killing Kingpin last season. This is DD's line in the sand: he stops killers, he doesn't become one. Which is why he briefly called it quits after throwing Bullseye off that rooftop last season. He came close to killing someone on purpose, and that was enough to make him hang up his cowl for a while.

Plus, more recently, he had just promised that young priest at the church that he wouldn't kill Bullseye, only hours before the boxing match. And, as far as DD is concerned, letting the Kingpin and his men kill Bullseye would be the same thing--if he was in a position to save him.

Finally got to watching this week's episode. It was great, but I can't really add anything you guys already said.

Except, ... Was that a plastic straw?! Are those still in use in New York?
One short online search says that businesses selling beverages in New York can actually be fined if plastic straws aren't available for drinks. They can also be fined if they provide a straw unless it is requested, though.

Hailee Steinfeld just gave birth, so I wouldn't count on her being in any MCU projects in the near future.
At least not in any kind of an action heavy role, a cameo on someone's phone or a TV screen, or just a visit without fighting probably wouldn't be out of the question once she's back to work.
It looks like The Watcher might have had a cameo in one of this season's episodes. But there is some debate about whether or not it was intentional.

I guess Fisk won't be Mayor much longer after this because he will be totally unhinged.

But I don't get Bullseye's motivation. He wants to balance the scales for Matt? Why does he even care about what he did to Matt?

Some places I go to stopped using plastic straws and then started using them again when customers complained...

Fisk brought them back. He's a man of the people.

2 out of 3 aint bad
But 3 out of 3 is even better.:cool:

And this time, Finn Jones will have the advantage of having 6 months of taekwondo training beforehand, as opposed to the 3-week crash course in martial arts he received to prepare for Iron Fist. Also, he will have the advantage of being in a show that's ran by Dario Scardapane rather than Scott Buck. Combine that with his passion for the character and desire to do right by the character, I'm all in for Finn Jones returning.

And gods willing, we'll see Jessica Henwick, Simone Missick, and maybe even Rosario Dawson return, too.

The producers aren't hiding the fact that this is the end of the Mayor Fisk storyline, so it would make sense if this is the start of his downfall.

Well, damn. I thought for a moment that I was actually wrong for the second time this season with my early pronouncements of characters' deaths. But perhaps that was a deliberate choice of subverting expectations after what happened with Cherry.

Instead, we got a touching coda* to Vanessa's memory, although I was a little surprised that the episode didn't focus entirely on Vanessa's long relationship with Wilson and instead explored the curious events that lead to Wilson walking into her gallery that faithful night. But what really stood out was how vulnerable and loving and relieved Wilson felt when he briefly thought Vanessa was safe and back at his side. That was some of D'Onofrio's best acting on both shows and I actually felt sorry for Wilson in that moment and the moments that followed, even if I knew the other shoe was about to drop (although I thought it would be limited to her permanent loss of her short-term memory, which cut too close to home for me because of my maternal grandfather).

When I saw Elden Henson's and Toby Leonard Moore's names in the credits, I thought the episode was going to be some kind of strange near-death experience that centered on Vanessa's interactions with various characters, including Foggy and Wesley. What we got instead was far better and felt much more natural. I was pleasantly surprised by how the episode took this particular time to also focus on the memory of Foggy and how his good nature still drives Matt's moral compass long after Foggy's death (even after Matt has seemingly abandoned his Catholicism).

I do wish we had gotten more of Wesley and not just of him riding in a car with Fisk at night (but that might have been a case of Moore's availability). Nonetheless I like how those scenes served as a passing of the torch from Moore/Wesley to Froushan/Buck, even if Buck still pales in comparison to Wesley.

Lastly, I loved the look of disgust on Karen's face when she saw Matt return with Bullseye. It's going to take all of Matt's remaining energy to keep her from committing instant murder.

I find it amusing how Born Again followed in For All Mankind's footsteps by featuring a coda episode for the death of a longstanding character after their apparent death at the end of the previous episode. It's especially funny because the week before, For All Mankind followed Born Again's footsteps in featuring a prison break. Obviously this is all purely coincidental, but it's still pretty funny to witness nonetheless.

Ayelet Zurer and executive producer Sana Amanat* talked about Vanessa's death in the newest podcast episode. They veered into a fascinating discussion about how her death mirrors Foggy's and how both of their deaths are direct results of Wilson's and Matt's poisonous obsession with each other. Amanat openly acknowledge the controversy about killing off Foggy but I have to say their discussion really helped me see the purpose of Foggy's death in the show. I still hate it but at least now I see how his death encapsulates the most difficult themes of the show.

The whole episode is worth watching:
