Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

What if there was an episode where it turns out that Spock's been secretly spying on the Federation for the Romulans all this time.
What if there was an episode where the entire cast gets turned into talking dogs.
What if there was an episode where Pike literally cooks and eats Number One.

There's got to be some concept that you'd realise was a bad idea for an episode just by reading it.
And if that's the impression given from a five second teaser then there's probably more to it. Or did Cause and Effect end with the cold open and the Enterprise was just destroyed?

All we know is there will be a Pike puppet in season 4. We don't know how or why or anything so there isn't even a solid concept there and you can't judge a non existent episode based on an assumption of what the concept will be.

And it won't be made by Akiva Goldsman or involve characters getting turned into puppets.
Hey, I'll take puppets over a fenale Starship lead medical officer having/perfering sex with a green candle or finding out going Warp 10 evolves Humans into lizards that immediately have sex and leave Tadpoles in a puddle of water any day.

So it's only the third worst idea in Star Trek history is what you're saying?

I've read reports that it involves a transporter accident.

This is a new wrinkle for transporter accidents. :shifty:

I'm going to admit to being skeptical on the whole puppet episode thing, but I'm holding off judgment until I see the final product. That said, transporters have done freaky things in the past...

At this stage any reports online are just going to be guesswork. Transporter malfunction is certainly an educated guess, it has been the cause of many a shenan in the past.

Played completely straight. Incredibly tense. Half the ship's already dogified - Pike's still on the bridge, but glimpses his reflection in a screen; a snout is appearing.

"Captain," Una says gravely, "Recommend that you be relieved of command. Until... until Doctor M'Benga can find a cure." Uhura gasps, only to look down and see her own fluffy tail expanding.

Suggested Titles:

"Who Let the Dogs Out?"
"Every Dog Has His Day"
"Barking Mad"

And Pelia being personally offended her Lanthanite physiology once again prevents her from transforming.

Exactly.
People had similar criticisms and a determination to hate the musical episode long before it came out too. Discourse around it is now largely pretty warm outside of the mostly people still offended by the concept of it who refuse to watch it.

Strange New Puppets could turn out the same way and end up quite well received beyond huffy folks who hate anything fun or different.

It just seems pretty absurd to me to hate an episode that hasn't come out yet.

How many stolen ideas from Buffy the Vampire Slayer abd Angel done need? I want episodes/adventures on the level of The Doomsday Machine, Where No Man Has Gone Before, Space Seed etc. Im tired of the comedies and silly musicals and now puppets.

These premises exist in other shows too.

Meh if TOS is your gold standard I don't know what to tell you.

If you actually watch Subspace Rhapsody you'll see that it is far from silly. Yes it's very lighthearted but it's actually an intimate deep dive into the characters.

Let's hope the new regime churns out some puritanical boring Star Trek where nothing new or fun is ever considered for you. Then you'll be happy.

I think the trouble is that some people find a series fun when it plays by its universe's rules and some people don't care about that and just want it to be imaginative.

I thought the puppet idea was fun in Angel because it suits Angel's magical universe. I thought it was fun in Legends of Tomorrow because Legends of Tomorrow is nuts. It would not be fun if it happened in The Pitt.

Star Trek is no stranger to the weird and whacky and we have no context for the puppet at all at this point so it could very easily play by all the rules we've seen facilitate all manner of strange shenanigoats in the past.

Assuming that it won't from the get go is just going to lead you to being too closed minded to even attempt to enjoy it when it does come out. We always try and find a way for something to meet our preconceived notions if we get too attached to them.
