The turbolift rollercoasters were goofy.
They weren't goofy, those were just flat stupid.

And horny. Don’t forget horny. It’s science fiction. Of course it’s weird.

I can accept the Burn but not the stupid turbo lifts. But, that's been true since Star Trek V so eh?I think even the most pro-Kurtzman fans have conceded that.
The turbolift funhouse is one of the only thing from Discovery I can accept into my personal canon. They've always been like that in my head, back to the NX-01.
When Kirk's doing his "I'VE LOST COMMAND!" turbolift breakdown, he's being rocketed through the ship at 90mph and thrown upside down, loop the loops and rollercoaster drops and shit like that.

TOS really is the "rule of thirds"... and somehow those crowdsourced IMDb rankings turned out fairly spot on...These are the top 20 episodes according to IMDb
Ah,yes, they must not care argument.Again no one said that previous Trek didn't suck. Star Trek 5 is the worst of the Trek films. It was awful and almost killed the movie franchise. I remember coming out of the theater completely disappointed and questioning my love for Star Trek..
That turbo lift thing in ST5 was probably a mis-label from a prop person that didn't know what they were doing. Shatner I will bet didn't care about little details like that and totally missed it in editing. But In the case of Disco and SNW turbo fun houses they knew exactly what they were doing but didn't care. Just one of the weirdest decisions in all of Trek. I can understand the need to extend turbo lift conversation scenes for the script. But that doesn't mean the interiors are the size of Manhattan....just really weird.

One has to be thorough and attentive to keep everyone safe. To that end I volunteer myself to spend 2 or 3 hours in there with Commander Tucker.Decon chamber. That is all.
And that shit was from 2001-05.![]()
That’s probably fair. I was raised with TNG, et al., but I also recognize where Trek came from. I also know there is plenty of fun and goofiness in the Berman era. I used to think it was best when serious. But my opinion has changed. And while I’ll admit, I think TOS season one is pretty close to the perfect season of Star Trek (barring The Alternative Factor… eww), I prefer TOS season two BECAUSE of the goofiness there. I love that there is more of a return to that with the Kurtzman era. Having a balance is important. It can’t all be speechifying and serious plots. And please don’t mistake me, I have my qualms about the Kurtzman era, the universe-ending threats being one of them, but I love the wonder, awe and joy that has returned to Trek. As opposed to strict moralizing on an almost weekly basis.
This is so nebulous as to be completely unuseful as any sort of direction in guiding a production.Again there is nothing wrong with a light hearted adventure. But let's keep it reasonable.
I'm sorry but that Disco turbolift thing. They didn't care. They did it to extend an action scene. Nothing more. It was ridiculous. I remember I was half asleep on the couch when I had seen the episode. I thought I was dreaming at first. I rewound the episode to see if those blurry imagines I had seen in and out of consciousness were real. I was shocked that they were.Ah,yes, they must not care argument.![]()
I think we all knew it was silly. But I won't lie. I did enjoy looking at Jolene Blalock half naked... I think they even showed her nude rear end one episode.Decon chamber. That is all.
