Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Fanhome issue 017 with the USS Credence NCC-2604 has arrived. The mag says one of the designs that contributed to the eventual appearance is from the abortive 23rd century production Star Trek Genesis.

Could you elaborate? This is the first I’ve heard of ‘Star Trek Genesis.’

I’ll take a photo of the relevant magazine page tonight.
In short, Star Trek Genesis (no dots or hyphen) was to be set in the 23rd century aboard the USS Genesis, a ship with 6 nacelles arranged in a halo.

Edit: Here we go:

Wow. I realize that this is just concept art, but that ship doesn’t look remotely like a 23rd century design. Good thing Star Trek Genesis never happened.

I got my Credence today, not a huge fan, the base doesn't really hold all of the various floaty bits very well, so it's super fiddly.

STO has released a trailer for a purchasable bundle in game. But the trailer is done like a documentary of the Romulan War and one professor holds up Eaglemoss ship models!

Wait, NCC-2604 no letters? That is a very odd registry for a 32c ship.
The magazine supposes the ship might originate in the 23rd century and have been continuously upgraded over the centuries.

Alternatively, the current Credence might've inherited the name and registry of a previous vessel, like the second USS Defiant on DS9.

Huh... IIRC, they took a similar take with the Tikhov seed ship (DSC: "Die Trying") and the Titan/Enterprise-G, claiming they were "refits" from earlier ships using the same spaceframe. While we have no reason to doubt this for the Tikhov (with considerably more advanced building materials and techniques), Riker's first Titan and the E/G were completely different designs and the likelihood of them being the same ship internally, as they claimed, were quite dubious.

Got my Archimedes today. Slap some TOS Movie era nacelles on it and it would easily look like a bridge between the Connie and Excelsior Class.

It’s a cool looking ship. Glad I grabbed it.

I wonder if Genesis is related to one of Nick Meyer's pitches
Ah... Yeah it could be. ISTR a bunch of titles were registered around 2018 including Star Trek: Destiny and Star Trek: Reliant. And Meyer pitched the Khan show that later became the podcast.

The seed ship was weird, it was a -M, but it's also implied it's the same ship. Add numerous oddities in recent series and the everything about the Titan-A/Ent-G, and I'm not sure that whomever's looking after all this stuff actually understands it. And, yes, a lot of it doesn't actually make sense because it was all made up on the fly over the course of sixty years, but that's no reason to shirk on the stuff that does make sense.

The stands and booklets are obviously new, but the models seem identical to the Eaglemoss ones. I guess MR acquired the molds because Fanhome aren't interested in doing ships at this size.

Yeah, I had the exact same thought. I imagine MR is going to start crapping these re-releases out with increased frequency, it'll be curious how far they stray from the major ships - the Section 31 one is sort of borderline, but was pretty prominent for most of Disco's second season.

Looks like the Enterprise D and E, Defiant, and attack position bird-of-prey will also be put back into production.

Because the 22nd century Intrepid class is now playable in STO - called the NV class - I decided to get two more UES Intrepid models off eBay and modify them with Bobmat’s decals into Voyager NV-56 and the USS Voyager (NCC-56) (I made them up).

I need to find them all but I reckon the “NV class” is most common Eaglemoss ship model I own. Have got a few!
