General Computer Thread

The Optiplex and the D830 both have 4GB, the Optiplex has never been updated it's still totally OEM except for the harddrive, the D830 originally had 3Gb but I was given a dead laptop a few years ago and it had memory of the same kind and now it has 4GB as well

I like messing around with old machines as well. :D

I got the Lenovo Ubuntu laptop today. I've installed my VPN and it works. Transferred video files from my Windows 7 machine to the laptop, then recorded a YouTube video on the Ubuntu laptop and transferred it to the Windows 7 machine. Since it all works, I've ordered a Thelio Prime Ubuntu desktop and quiet tactile keyboard from System 76. I have an HDMI Switch to use between machines and my existing 46 inch 3840x2160 UHD monitor. I'm not really into gaming, but I do stream a lot of TV content.

I'm still on AM4 my fastest machine is a Ryzen 5700X, it will need to go for another 5-6 years before I am willing to upgrade, maybe later if the stupid AI bubble won't burst. :borg::shifty:

I actually have one.. Q6600 Quad core 16GB RAM and an old Geforce GT 7900 GTX which I got from a friend, needs a new PSU though..

I found it! Old BBC documentary that was run on the ABC here in Australia back in the 80s.... I distinctly remembered this because at the start the pessimistic commentary about somethings. Watching it right now and it's just as I remember it back in 1980. Oh boy the whole thing actually was kind of pessimistic.. Ooh boy

Update, the Ubuntu desktop machine arrived today from System 76, and I am on it right now. I'll use the Windows 7 machine for listening to audio and watching videos, because it has a surround sound 5.1 audio card. I'll also use the Windows machine for anything involving PC Paintbrush. I'll use the Linux machine for downloading any files on the Internet, then use the Windows 7 machine for storage of any content I've downloaded and saved.
Got my VPN installed using terminal mode and working. I'm using a 5G Wi-Fi connection to my router.
Went to Best Buy and purchased a cheap Logitech Bluetooth white mouse, to distinguish it from the black mouse I use with the Windows machine.

I want to thank Windows for being so cumbersome and asinine about their operating system, they made the switch so attractive. :D
