2026 Novel Releases

I’m surprised we haven’t had an Academy novel announced yet. A prequel from Nahla and Lura Thok’s past seems an easy pitch.

Don't forget Charlie Vance, there's clearly a bit of backstory to their friendship.

Didn't it take a couple of seasons before we got our first Strange New Worlds novel?

OK, so I guess it might be a little behind then. Hopefully we'll get something sometime soon.

Yeah, I would not be surprised if we get something for December or early 2027 for Starfleet Academy.

As much as my wallet appreciates the slowdown in production, I do wish we could see more books per year, considering we now have more Trek than we did during the novels production heyday.

It did feel like a reference to a tie-in when Reno mentioned how she and Thok first met. Combined with Tilly having already been part of the Academy, an Academy/Discovery crossover/interquel novel seems like an sure thing.

It makes sense Thok or Vance or whoever was in charge of recruiting for the new full-scale Academy would head to Discovery. There's a sub-text that they wanted professors who were Academy graduates and had first-hand experience with the pre-Burn Starfleet. Ake, Tilly, Reno, the Doctor, Dax, that one Vulcan could've been old enough....

It certainly seems like it's not a coincidence, since if every officer commissioned in the last hundred-thirty-odd years would be a War College graduate, you'd expect them to be demographically dominant in Starfleet, yet practically every professor we've met has had an Academy pedigree. And if it was an explicit goal, that means they'd need to be finding officers who were longer-lived than humans or somehow temporally displaced, and Discovery would be a goldmine of not just Academy officers, but ones from a golden age that churned out Starfleet legends like it was going out of style.

First one came out ten months after the premiere aired. (So between the finale and season two starting.)
Not to mention The Enterprise War, which although Discovery branded, it was Discovery season 2 branded and essentially a prequel to the Enterprise's appearance there.

But can't really be considered a "Strange New Worlds novel" at all, considering it came out three years before SNW started. It's 'Discovery branded' because Discovery was the only show that existed at the time.
