It looks more like a shopping mall.

they should have done that 10 years ago after ontario place closed down

I feel so sad about what happened to Ontario Place and how it had just been left abandoned. At one point, it was such a point of pride for the Ontario Government. it was also part of a much bigger entertainment hub. You had Exhibition Stadium close by, as well as the Baseball Hall of Fame Museum (no idea if it's there anymore) , a concert venue and during the summer months, you had The Ex. Then it in 2011, it was unceremoniously closed and left to rot because the government decided it didn't want to spend the upkeep anymore.

^ But at least the ultra-wealthy will get to enjoy their new exclusive spa, right? The rich get so little, it’s nice that the province is providing something for them to make their lives a little bit nicer.

/s, of course

Oh joy, a spa! The rich get to exfoliate in an enviroment most of the public won't get access to!

Yeah, the fact that so much money would be spent on that and it's not even something the public would get access to is so egregious! Very much the opposite of something like a train line like the Northlander which is very much needed, for example. And yet people have an issue with the Northlander.

back in the old days whenever cne opened it was one of the most popular theme parks to go

What have they done with that plot of land, do you know? I feel like the CNE and Ottawa's CCE (SuperEx) along with it were part of a different era where things were done at such a scale which aren't done much anymore.

with ontario place well i think its still deserted and i guess just sitting there not being rebuilt

Well B.C has said goodbye to clock changes.

After they go forward on Sunday, they'll stay that way and British Columbia will be in it's own time zone.

They've been waiting on California, Oregon and Washington State to change thing but that requires congressional approval and we all know how much work the congress is doing at the moment.

So the premier has said stuff and the Province has moved on it's own.

Ontario would move the same way but we're stuck waiting for the U.S states.

I heard that! Good for them. I'm kinda jealous; I've wanted permanent DST for a while now.

I'm hoping this is a wake-up call to Ford, and he takes a page out of Eby's book and just says forget it, we're not waiting any longer. (I believe we're also technically waiting for Quebec too? But this waiting has got us nowhere, let's just move forward like BC and do something good on our own.)

Yeah, we've been waiting for a number of years now, and given the current U.S administration, I wager we'll be kept waiting as long as Trump is in power, as I have no doubt in my mind he would try to use it as leverage to have us align with his trade demands. And he calls us a nasty country to deal with while he's the one holding everything up.

Yeah, Washington voters voted a few years ago to get rid of daylight savings time and it requires Congressional approval to move forward. It's been stuck in committee.

yes that's what I said.

Not me. It’s much better to have permanent standard time. But I don’t spend much time thinking about it as I have no control and DST has the better PR rep.

though the change to DST does lead to sense of deja vu and Global News and I guess the others trot out the same "shift to daylight savings time is bad mkay" stories. They find different experts but the story is basically the same.

It's lazy journalism.

It’s also true. We would be better off with standard time.

It's funny, I was thinking of posting something asking about people's thoughts about this very question. Maybe I still will.

(I am admittedly firmly in camp DST myself, but I do acknowledge that the consensus of experts is that standard is the "better" option.)

Yeah, DST sounds good to me. When you live further north, you tend to feel the effects a bit more. Gets dark a bit earlier, so you want to as much light as possible for as long as possible. There's also the benefit of reducing the need for artificial lighting.
