Future of Paramount+ among merger talks

Idunno. Maybe play music videos?

Streaming Killed the Video Star.

The biggest story in Hollywood and one of the messiest got a few zingers during the Golden Globes ceremony Sunday as host Nikki Glaser kicked off her opening monologue with a reference to the biggest takeover target in years. “We’ll start the bidding for Warner Bros at five dollars — do I hear five dollars?” the comedian joked.

Dinging David Ellison’s Paramount Skydance, the owner of the Globes’ broadcast network CBS since August who is in the midst of a fight for WBD, Glaser called CBS News “Americans’ newest place to ‘See BS News’ ” and offered it a mock award for “Most Editing.”

Later in the evening, as Glaser descended from the stage into the starry audience, she noted, “Behind me is the HBO table — or whatever it will be called by the time the show ends.”

Ouch ... 😖

Paramount announced a $500 million loss in the last quarter. Even if David Ellison's father pays off Warner Bros. and Paramount's debts, Paramount will most likely go bankrupt in a few years if it can't produce box office hits. They were also going to make a film with George Clooney. However, a clause was added requiring him not to speak about politics for two years, which Clooney considered a form of silencing and left the project.

Yeah, supposedly the new company (assuming this goes thru) will start 100 billion in the hole. So I wouldn’t necessarily count on any new Star Trek for a while now that Academy S2 has wrapped.

David Ellison Couldn't his father have paid the 100 billion dollars?

Warners' film business is better off with Paramount than Netflix.

Netflix is notorious for cancelling shows after two seasons.

I once read a post on Twitter/X that said there should be a band called "Cancelled After Two Seasons on Netflix".

Warner has real expertise in merchandising (something Paramount has struggled with). They're doing great with their Harry Potter and Lego Batman toy lines (This is to say nothing of Warner's Harry Potter land at Universal Studios).
