All things RED Dwarf

Gazpacho Soup Day was 25 November and the drive plate repair failed and wiped out the crew six weeks later. Which means that yesterday, 6 January, is Rimmer's death day

“Rimmer. You’ve got a longer yellow streak than a stampede of diarrhetic camels.”

Still the greatest insult of all time.

I prefer "Excuse me, Rimmer. Did you know you're about as popular as a horny dog at a Miss Lovely Legs competition" myself

It looks like Rob Grant’s prequel has morphed into a novel, titled Red Dwarf: Titan

This is revealed as several smaller book sellers in the UK have been given info from the publisher but weren’t told not to list it before they announced it.

Looks like it will be published in July

I wonder if this be like Grant’s brilliant Quanderhorn, which was a book with a two series radio programme

Happy Valentine's Day Smegheads!

Happy Valentines Day!
Get your better half two bags of self-raising.

I'm a bit confused. I thought the cancelled Red Dwarf special by Naylor was about this and Grant's was a prequel/reboot.

Anyway... should be an interesting read. Hopefully they release it on audio too.

Pedantically, Doug's special wasn't cancelled, it wasn't even ever commissioned. He was working on it on the assumption a commission was a probability, then was told that Dave no longer commission scripted shows.

Doug's idea was a Timeslides-esque sounding adventure with Lister and Young Lister, whereas Grant's prequel is set on Titan with Young Rimmer and Young Lister (though it does sound like the older versions of the crew are involved somehow too). Great minds, I suppose, parallel thinking.

I imagine the key difference (not knowing the lower level details of either story) is the framing. It sounds like Rob (and Andrew)'s book will be framed from the perspective of the young Lister and Rimmer on Titan, whereas Doug's sounded presumably framed from the perspective of old crew.

Doug mentioned in an interview last year that he might consider turning his idea into a novel. So we could have maybe eventually a replication of the Last Human / Backwards novelisations...

That's my impression here too. Guess there is still some friction between them if they are still playing the same game 30 years later.

The news is breaking that Rob Grant has died
Rob Grant RIP – Ganymede & Titan
We at Ganymede & Titan are heartbroken to pass on a message from Rob Grant’s family. With much sadness, we have to announce that Rob Grant, co-creator of Red Dwarf, passed away suddenly yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 25th February 2026), a great loss to his family, friends and comedy fans across...

The world of UK comedy has, in my opinion, lost a giant. Nay, a titan.

Didn't want to believe it, a Google search didn't show any news about it, but the front page did say "Died 26 Feb 2026", but that was removed when I searched again 5 minutes later.

My favourite quote:

Admitted to Robert Llewellyn in the YouTube version of Carpool (2010) that he can't bring himself to watch any Red Dwarf episodes made after he left. "It's like watching a video of your ex-wife's second honeymoon.".

Sad news. Just sad.

At least we still have Doug Naylor. He did most of the writing of Red Dwarf episodes after Rob Grant left.
