A live action Voltron movie, which already completed filming... Has released no teasers or photos and is premiering on a streaming service.

Hmm...

Originally the production was going to be a little longer, with the film likely dropping in 2027. I don't think they were ready yet for all that.

Is there a trailer yet?

Filming was completed on May 24, 2025. I think it will be released towards the end of the year.

Well, it was being made for Amazon from the outset, so premiering on Amazon doesn't feel like a problem to me.

Most movies don't release teasers, they wait until there's enough finished to do a proper trailer. Unless something is big enough to hold the hype level high for a year, you don't want to start advertising too aggressively, too soon. All this seems perfectly on track to me. Though I concede I'm no expert here.

Yeah, there's a lot of movies coming out late this year that we still haven't seen anything for yet. And streaming releases tend to wait until closer to release than theatrical movies.

Amazon hasn't had a lot of luck with releasing films designed for the streaming service in theatres.

They tried with Red One (thinking Dwayne Johnson being in it would bring in audiences); but it didn't do so well at the Box office.

It was going to be 'direct to Streaming but they switched course and the production budget ballooned to $200 million.

In it's theatrical run it brought in only $186 million Worldwide.

So yeah, maybe they thought about doing the same type of thing with this Voltron project; but backed off and kept it (and the Budget) down for a direct to AP streaming release.

The film's budget was $250 million, not $200 million. It was originally planned to be shot for $200 million, but because Dwayne Johnson was constantly delayed during filming, the budget increased by $50 million. The film was supposed to be released on Prime Video around Christmas time in 2023, but due to the SAG-Afra strike, it was delayed by a year, from December 20, 2023, to 2024 for theatrical release. I think at some point in 2023, during the post-production process, Amazon MGM Studios management watched the film and decided to release it in theaters.

True, though I would point out Masters of the Universe released a teaser early last year and it's not something to hype about, it's another 1980's cartoon on the same level as Voltron. But MotU had time to put one together.

Okay, to all of the Voltron fans in here, which "team" are you on: pro-cats, or pro-vehicles? I ask because in some social media circles, the pro-cat crowd seem to believe that end of the series was the Voltron, while others favored the more space-operatic version with the vehicles.

Based on the cartoons I watched growing up, the lions were more fun, but the vehicles actually developed a more interesting story arc, especially with one of the villains gradually rethinking his life choices, something that the lions series lacked.

I prefer Vehicle Team Voltron. It was the first version I saw on TV. When the Lions came around, I was initially like “what the heck? This isn’t Voltron”.

However, I enjoy Lion Force Voltron too, now. Nevertheless I still prefer Vehicle Team. I like that it’s a bit more straight sci-fi.

Didn't have cable as a kid so I only knew of Voltron through VHS rentals. Was mad I never could find the Voltron II cartoon, which they never actually went through with. They were going to turn Lightspeed Electroid Albegas into Voltron.

I remember hearing about that Voltron in the equivalent of hushed whispers as a kid and never having any idea WTF they were talking about.

Well put; Vehicle Team had the more structured story, where one could care about the characters and not simply count the minutes until Voltron was put into action.

Agreed.

Wasn't the vehicle team set after the lions series? I was told that decades ago and never had reason not to believe it.

EDIT: I didn't see all the episodes of either series.
