Early Criticism: What’s Unfounded and What Isn’t

"Its all fiction" is a weak argument. Every show or franchise has certain boundaries and rules to it. That would be like putting a skirt on James Bond and saying "Its just fiction. Who cares?? Everyone who read the novels and knows the character far better than the new writers who didn't do their homework. That's who.
This is a good point. Even though the world/universe created might be fictional and even fantastical, there have to be certain established rules or parameters..whether it is ST, SW, LoTR, Hogwarts or any other world.

When these established rules are violated for the sake of the plot, or other mechanism(s) it loses credibility, and the fabric , so to speak, tears apart.

Fortunately, none of that is at issue in discussing an individual whose existence in a franchise is now five hours old wearing a skirt.

That's a statement of fact, not an opinion.

I 1000% agree with this. I'd wear it on a t-shirt, but it's a bit wordy.

But Starfleet has an established rule of gender equality when it comes to clothing and Jay-Den has an established trait of going against tradition and doing his own thing. Not that it even was a tradition, Worf just didn't like wearing the dress uniforms because they looked like a dress.

Worf was about as neurotic about his culture as Spock.

"Heart of Glory" was one of TNG's best, and established an up-to-then rather flat character as an individual, as well as being a closer analogue to Spock than Data was.

How many pages have you all been talking about a skirt?? 😂 I wonder if this would not have been much of an issue with some, if Jayden had been portrayed as straight instead of indicators that he may be gay??... 🤔

so you're saying that only gay characters would wear mini skirts?
maybe next episode the Doctor will wear one, (while he's breathing underwater ):)

I don't know, with all the moral outrage certain factions were recently expressing over drag queens, of all things, I can certainly see them getting their undies in a bunch over a Klingon wearing a skirt. And come to think of it, there was actually a prominent drag queen featured in this episode.

Not at all. I'm just playing devils advocate here... 😂.....no one had much of an issue with the Starfleet skirts in TNG. Well maybe some did but I don't remember hearing much complaints. So I'm just wondering if this is the issue some people are having. If all the cadets were wearing the skirts would there even be this 10 page discussion????

as I recall they were briefly in season one and only for a couple of episodes, but they were one-sies

Scotty wore a Kilt in "The Savage Curtain", it was in line with his cultural heritage, and had his family crest on it...hell even Zakk Wylde, Ozzy's badass guitar player has worn Kilts on stage. IMO, I don't have a problem with him wearing a mini skirt, i just have a problem with his fashion sense! :)

Cool.

What rules are violated with this fashion?
