And let's not forget, McCoy in "The Alternative Factor" did call himself a "young" doctor with a skilled touch. 39 or 40 is still pretty young for a physician.
At the end of the episode they mentioned diverting a freighter and that Sherman's planet would get their grain just a few weeks late. Before leaving station K-7, Dr McCoy treated all the poisoned grain with an antidote, rendering it safe for consumption on Sherman's Planet.
Thought: someone else found the Aquans sooner in the Kelvinverse and Oqwe Lin's character is one who made the jump to being an air-breather.
There is a very narrow range of ages that would get that reference. And I'm one of 'em!Could be worse. Could be Dennis from Head of the Class.

Although, it's not uncommon for anyone in their forties to wishfully describe themselves as "young."And let's not forget, McCoy in "The Alternative Factor" did call himself a "young" doctor with a skilled touch. 39 or 40 is still pretty young for a physician.
Learn to grow, Sherman! At the end of the episode they mentioned diverting a freighter and that Sherman's planet would get their grain just a few weeks late.
With more and more people making it to their 80s or even beyond I hope more people do consider their forties to be pretty young. Everything's relative but 40 isn't even approaching "freshness date rapidly approaching" to a lot of people in the modern world.Although, it's not uncommon for anyone in their forties to wishfully describe themselves as "young."
Where's Jack Benny when they needed him?No it doesn't, because it makes McCoy all of 39 years old during the first season of TOS. DeForest Kelley was 46 and looked every year of it. There's no way he's plausible as a 39 year old.

Nah. He was 46, the same as DeForest Kelley.Hopefully the makeup will help, but yeah, McCoy isn't even 40 when he begins serving aboard the Enterprise.

[*Places hand on chin and mouth and smirks at thread*]Where's Jack Benny when they needed him?
Follows the SNW casting trend that they cast now 43 year old Paul Wesley as ~28 year old Jim Kirk. And Strange New Worlds has cast 56 year old Thomas Jane as Leonard McCoy.![]()

I don't do that. I've called myself old for 30 years and just turned 41.Although, it's not uncommon for anyone in their forties to wishfully describe themselves as "young."
I wouldn't mind being 40 again. With more and more people making it to their 80s or even beyond I hope more people do consider their forties to be pretty young. Everything's relative but 40 isn't even approaching "freshness date rapidly approaching" to a lot of people in the modern world.
I always liked it growing up, but in retrospect the science and gender assumptions it makes are just plain weird in 2025/6. But I have no problem retrospectively seeing Cochrane as a rejuvenated James Cromwell.FredH, Metamorphosis is one of my TOS favorites.
